Akron 10, Binghamton 8

Six of Akron’s seven walks turned into runs in a 10-8 win over the Binghamton Mets tonight at NYSEG Stadium.

The B-Mets held a 6-2 lead until the Aeros put up six runs in the eighth inning. After retiring five straight, reliever Brandon Sage walked a pair and was chased from the game on Juan Apodaca’s double.

Ricky Brooks entered with two outs, but could not protect the lead, allowing four straight to reach. The right-hander walked the first two he faced, gave up a two-run single to Matt McBride, and allowed a two-run double to Beau Mills. When the dust settled, Akron owned an 8-6 lead.

Akron had possessed an early one-run lead thanks to back-to-back doubles off starter Brandon Moore in the first. Binghamton answered back with a four-run second, highlighted by Raul Reyes’ three-run home run.

Moore allowed a run in the fifth before being relieved by Sage. The right-hander allowed two runs on eight hits and stood to be the winner before the fateful eighth.

After watching Akron double their lead with two runs off Roy Merritt in the ninth, the B-Mets attempted to muster a rally in their last at bat. Akron reliever Matt Langwell recorded two outs, but allowed three to reach before Cory Burns entered in relief.

The closer allowed an RBI single to Reyes that cut the deficit to two before inducing Eric Campbell to fly out to end the game.
