B-Mets 4, Bowie 1

Josh Satin drove in three of Binghamton’s four runs and the bullpen combined to carry the B-Mets to a 4-1 victory over Bowie at Prince George’s Stadium Saturday night. Binghamton clinched the series with the win and has now won four straight games for its longest winning streak of the 2011 season.



The B-Mets tallied in the first inning for the third straight game. Matt den Dekker laced a double into the left-field corner off Chorye Spoone to lead off the contest. Jordany Valdespin moved him to third on a swinging bunt that was handled by the catcher for the first out. Satin came up next and served a single into right to score den Dekker.



Bowie (36-36) answered against spot-starter Roy Merritt in the bottom of the frame. Buck Britton singled to center with one out. After Merritt walked LJ Hoes, Joe Mahoney dropped a single in front of Raul Reyes in right to plate Britton, which evened the score.

Merritt settled in from there and fired a career-best five innings of one-run ball to keep the game tied at one. Michael Powers followed the lefty and offered up two, scoreless innings.



Meanwhile, Spoone, who allowed four hits in the first inning, limited the B-Mets to two hits in his next six innings. The Baysox right-hander tossed a season-best seven innings with nine strikeouts. He retired the final 11 men he faced.



Binghamton (27-45) feasted on the bullpen after Spoone’s departure. Raul Rivero entered in the eighth to face the top of the lineup. Den Dekker led off with a seeing-eye single to right. Valdespin followed and bunted a Rivero offering up the third-base line. Carlos Rojas fielded the bunt and attempted to get the lead runner at second, but his throw was late. With two on and nobody out, Satin smoked a double down the left-field line to plate both runners and vault the B-Mets ahead 3-1. Allan Dykstra closed the scoring with an RBI single to left.

Rhiner Cruz entered after the three-run outburst and shutdown the Baysox. He allowed one hit and retired the final five men he faced to nail down his third save in as many chances.



Powers earned the win in relief and Rivero was hung with his second loss after allowing the eighth-inning rally.

Den Dekker rapped a team-high three hits out of the leadoff spot as the B-Mets outhit Bowie 11-4. Satin was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI to up his hitting streak to nine games.
