Bradenton 11, St. Lucie 3

The St. Lucie Mets had their six-game winning streak snapped by the Bradenton Marauders Sunday afternoon in a rain shortened 11-3 loss. The loss drops the Mets to 2-1 on the second half of the season, 40-33 overall.

Mets starter Scott Moviel was solid through his five innings of work. Moviel allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and left with a 3-2 lead after five innings of play. St. Lucie jumped out to an early 3-0 lead scoring once in the third and twice in the third inning. Moviel yielded two RBI doubles, one in each the fourth and fifth innings that cut the Mets lead to 3-2. The Mets bullpen could not hold off the potent Marauders offense late in the game. Brandon Sage allowed back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning putting the Mets in a 5-3 hole and the Marauders put the game well out of reach plating six runs in the top of the eighth inning before play was called due to rain and more inclement weather throughout the evening. With the score 11-3 and two outs in the top of the eighth, the remainder of the game was cancelled and will not be completed.

The Mets ten hits on the afternoon as all but one player reached base for St. Lucie. Cory Vaughn continues his impressive start to his FSL career with an RBI double that kicked off the Mets scoring. Juan Centeno and Juan Lagares each delivered two hits in the loss. Lagares 2-for-4 day increases his league leading batting average. Stefan Welch scored and drove in a run. The bullpen did not fare well combining to allow nine runs over the final 2.2 innings.
