LAST GAME: The B-Mets squandered a two-run lead late, but plated four runs in the eleventh inning to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs at Fenway Park by a 6-4 score in the Futures at Fen-way Game. Collin McHugh and Sea Dogs starter Charlie Haeger matched scoreless innings until Binghamton took a two-run lead on three walks, two errors, and one single in the seventh. The lead disappeared in the eighth when Alex Hassan took Ricky Brooks deep for two. The B-Mets broke the tie in the eleventh when Eric Campbell shot a single through the left side to bring home Juan Lagares. Kai Gronauer capped the rally by launching a three-run home run over the Green Monster. Erik Turgeon allowed two runs on three hits in the ninth and was relieved by Josh Stinson with two outs. Stinson fanned Mitch Dening to earn his fourth save and make Rhiner Cruz a winner.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Tobi Stoner makes his 14th start with Binghamton and third against the Sea Dogs. Stoner’s last two appearances have come in relief, tossing three innings in each following starts by Collin McHugh. Stoner took a no-decision in his last start against the Altoona Curve on August 3. He allowed just one unearned run on two hits over seven innings in a game the B-Mets would lose 4-3. In two starts against Portland, Stoner has gone 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA.
RHP Brock Huntzinger will make his 23rd start of the season and his fifth against Binghamton. The Indiana native is on a four-game losing streak and has not won since July 6th when he beat the B-Mets at Hadlock Field. He dropped his last start to the Reading Phillies on August 16, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. The nine hits allowed matched a season-high. In four starts versus the B-Mets, the righty has gone 2-1 with a 4.05 ERA and allowed a .269 batting average.
FAMILIAR WITH FENWAY: B-Mets third baseman Eric Campbell went 3-for-5 yesterday with a double and drove home the go-ahead run in the eleventh inning. The Norwich, CT native played in a high school all-star game at Fenway Park and played three times in college as a Boston College Eagle.
THE STREAK ENDS: Portland outfielder Alex Hassan ended Ricky Brooks’ scoreless streak with one swing of the bat, crush-ing a two-run home run over the center field fence to tie the game in the eighth inning. It was the first run Brooks had al-lowed in 18 innings. The righty last allowed a run on July 5, the day before he went on the DL with a right shoulder strain.
MATCH THE SEASON SERIES: The B-Mets and Sea Dogs meet for the final time this season today. Binghamton has a chance to even the season series at 10-10 with a win.
