When you grow up in the V.I. and choose to play baseball, you are not playing against the best talent, and it is hard to challenge a pitcher with a skill set like Morris’. So despite his abilities, Morris is now facing much tougher competition for the first time in his life. His uneven performance has resulted in a 2-2 record, and an ERA of 4.05. His peripherals are somewhat more encouraging, but even considering the high strikeout numbers, he walks too many batters, 30 in 40 IP. The really good news? He is only 18 years old, and Appy League opposition is hitting only .185 against him.
Jason Bay:

It was either he figure a way to improve or get sized for a Mr. Met head. In all seriousness he has improved at the plate but again it all depends on your expectations of Bay. Yes this Jason Bay has improved over what we’ve seen in the two years he’s been a Met. But is Jason Bay 2.0 ever going to resemble the power hitter we paid a ransom for 2 years ago? I just don’t see the bat speed where it should be. Blame it on age or injury or what have you it’s just not there. Seeing Bay swing as if he carrying a lacquered redwood in his hands is just plain sad.
Juan Lagares:

He made 40 errors in 82 South Atlantic League games back in 2007, yet his athleticism prompted BA to rank him No. 28 in the Mets' farm system that offseason. Our report quoted a Mets official as saying that long-term, Lagares' bat would be his best tool. Since then, Lagares evolved as a prospect, moving to the outfield (mostly the corners) and actually starting to hit. He's just 22 and has earned his first trip to Double-A by batting .339/.381/.495 for high Class A St. Lucie, and he hasn't stopped hitting with Double-A Binghamton. He's hit safely in 20 of 21 starts for the B-Mets, carrying a nine-game hitting streak into the weekend, and is batting .400/.420/.589 overall. "He's a very quiet hitter," B-Mets manager Wally Backman told Gannett Newspapers. "He's got a nice swing . . . He's a pretty good-looking player." Lagares doesn't have one carrying tool, and he's lost his plus speed over the years while filling out (though he's still listed at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds). He'll go as far as his bat will take him.

But there's going to come a point where giving it the ol' college try isn't going to be good enough. Unfortunately I'm not quite sure when that time is coming. For a lot of us fans, it's now. The amount of frustration has been more than enough over the past few years. But with the roster being stripped down with this new philosophy, it's going to take time. It's frustrating to have a comeback like this and then have the veteran Isringhausen piss it away. Izzy's done more than the Mets could have ever expected from a guy who was inches from retirement, but it's gotta be time to throw Parnell to the wolves and give him the ninth inning and live with his faults. The Mets have to live with somebody's faults, it might as well be Parnell's. Find out now, because this bullpen needs to be completely different next season and the Mets need to know if Bobby can handle the ninth or if he needs to find another role/job/team. - http://www.metstradamusblog.com/2011-articles/august/extinguished.html
