Originally signed by the Mets in March of 2009, Yanez pitched in 11 games for the K-Mets this year, for a total of 22 IP. He gave up 16 hits, but only 1 ER (as a result of a solo HR), had a K/BB ratio of 14/4, opponents BA was .203, and his WHIP was 0.90.

He's accountable, takes the ball every fifth day, etc. But my goodness, 6 and 10 with an ERA flirting with 5.00? No pitcher is more puzzling than Pelfrey, who just doesn't seem to have the fire to excel.

Cone may be remembered today more for his time with the Yankees, but he became an elite pitcher across town with the Mets. Acquired on March 27th, 1987, along with Chris Jelic, for Rick Anderson, Mauro Gozzo, and Ed Hearn, Cone would join an already loaded rotation that included Dwight Gooden, Ron Darling, Sid Fernandez, Bobby Ojeda, and Rick Aguilera. How stacked were the Mets in 1988? Cone began the year in the bullpen as the sixth starter. Aguilera would go down with an injury, leading to Cone taking his spot in the rotation. Moving (David) Wright off third base would allow Daniel Murphy to play his natural position, which hopefully would keep him on the field and away from injury. In limited action at third base this year, the advanced defensive metrics are mixed on Murphy. Total Zone has him at -1, which works out to -5 over 1,200 innings. UZR has him at + 0.7 or + 4.8 over 150 games. DRS has him at +2. But upgrading from Wright to Murphy would be around a 20-run improvement over an entire season.
