LAST GAME: Matt Harvey fired seven shutout innings and the B-Mets scratched out enough offense to defeat the Erie Sea-Wolves 2-0 last night at NYSEG Stadium. Harvey allowed two base runners in the first inning. but escaped unharmed by inducing Bryan Holaday to bounce into an inning-ending double play, the first of three Erie would roll into on the night. After being kept at bay by Erie starter Drew Smyly, the B-Mets of-fense plated two in the fourth. Juan Lagares and Reese Havens got aboard on singles and Mike Fisher reached on shortstop Cale Iorg’s fielding error. Dusty Ryan walked on four pitches to force home a run and Havens tagged and scored on Eric Camp-bell’s foul pop out down the right field line. Harvey exited after seven with five strike outs. Josh Stinson took over and added two more scoreless frames to earn his fifth save of the year.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brandon Moore makes his team-leading 24th start of the season and fourth against Erie. Moore had his four-game winning streak snapped when he lost to the New Britain Rock Cats in his most recent start on August 17. He gave up six runs and matched a season-high by allowing nine hits over five innings in a game the B-Mets would lose 7-3. Moore has gone 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA against Erie this year.
RHP Brooks Brown will make his 15th start with Erie and first against the B-Mets. Brown began the year in extended spring training before joining the SeaWolves in the middle of June. He has lost five games in a row, with his last win coming against the Altoona Curve on July 17. He dropped his most recent start to the Trenton Thunder on August 18, allowing five runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .325 against the Georgia native, including a .354 clip by left-hander batters.
LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL: Last night’s victory extended Bing-hamton’s winning streak to five games, tied for their longest of the season (7/7-11). They have won eight of their last nine and lead the Eastern League with 13 victories in August.
EFFICIENT OFFENSE: The B-Mets collected just three hits, but plated two runs in their seventh shutout victory of the season. The three team total bases set a season-low. The B-Mets are now 3-7 when racking up three hits or fewer.
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END: The B-Mets failed to hit a home run for the first time in nearly two weeks, a span stretching over 12 games. Binghamton crushed 18 dingers during the streak, including two grand slams.
