I May Be Wrong, But…
1. The Mets' Arizona Fall League contingent will include right-handers Collin McHugh and Brandon Moore, second baseman Reese Havens and outfielder Juan Lagares. Havens is an obvious choice and needs to play a whole year, not a season, without an injury. McHugh and Moore have both had a wonderful season and it’s good to see the Mets recognize it. And it’s now obvious that the Mets are taking the hitting surge by Lagares seriously.
2. It was a bad year for the GCL Mets. The season ended Saturday. There basically was no hitting leader… Gilbert Gomez was the highest BA for a player over 100 at bats, and he hit only .248 (he’s doing great, though, right now for St. Lucie). Four players led the team with home runs… two.

3. The pitching at the GCL was pretty decent. Names you want to remember as ‘The Keepers” series continue to be printed are: Gabriel Ynoa, Alberto Baldonado, Julian Hilaro, Rafael Montero, Issac Monrroy, Rainy Lara, and Michael Hebert. Star of the season was undrafted RP Beck Wheeler. The big disappointment was the return of Zach Dotson.
4. I’ve cut back to a post every two hours. My first post is around 8am, followed by a Phlavio post M-F at 10am. I then pick it back up at noon with a last post at 8pm. Draft posts dominate the 6pm and 8pm posting. The other writers on the site are hit and miss, so you might get additional posts, but I can’t keep up the quality and produce more than six posts a day.
5. The Mets have quietly built up a number of intermediate prospects that could be packaged up for one key player. Guys like Juan Lagarus, Josh Satin, Zach Lutz, Mike Baxter, Allan Dykstra, Collin McHugh, Eric Beaulac, and Brandon Moore have other Mets blocking them in 2012.2013, yet they are ready to make that next step. Three of four of these guys could possibly get one of those prospect catchers from the Yankees or Cincinnati organization.

Mack, what's your thoughts on the AFL guys? Havens, Lagares and McHugh make sense to me, but unless they are looking to convert Brandon Moore to a reliever in the AFl, I would have rather seen Josh Stinson, Brad Holt or Robert Carson go there to work on transitioning to the bullpen.
We don't lack young, talented starting pitchers at this point, so I think they're going to start moving some of these failed starters to the pen to see if they can find some future closers on the farm. Ya never know, Mariano Rivera didn't work out as a starter and he turned out ok.
My guess on the Mets thinking:
Both McHugh and Moore line up as a AAA SP next year. They two, along with Chris Schwinden, are insurance starters until the 4 prospects develop and pass them by.
I expect all three to then become pen possiblities in 2013.
The Lagares move might be showcasing.
IMO, Stinson, Holt, and Carson no longer earn a choice winter assignment. They can gladly go to Columbia
Mack, I like your thinking as far as the Mets using some of their minor league depth to acquire a young catcher like Grandal, Sanchez, or Romine. What do you think about Toronto as well? They have Arencibia at the ML level and d'Arnaud playing really well in AA. Of all the catching prospects out there I'd really like to see the Mets pick up d'Arnaud.

the key to any trade with an AL team would be a healthy Daniel Murphy...

Montero? That would be good for the Mets but I have to wonder if the Yanks would look to compromise on one of their other catchers.
I'd like to see this organization get back to trading young surplus talent for young talent in positions of need. I'm a fan of the Frank Cashen wheeling-and-dealing - Mazzilli for Darling and Hojo (via Walt Terrell).
I have dreamed about Montero since I followed him in A ball in Charleston.
I'd make that trade however Cashman loves Montero more then you do Mack and the Yanks have a couple of stud pitching prospects already so that deal would be difficult.
You are probably right, Charles, about Cashman and Montero... but this is Cashman's last year.
