Cutnpaste: Bret Mitchell, Lucas Duda, Closer Pelfrey, Josh Satin, Rafael Montero

Bret Mitchell:

The 2010 12th round pick out of Minnesota State University-Mankato, went 5-1 with a 2.95 ERA for Kingsport. In 40 IP he gave up 24 Hits, only two of which were HR’s. He had a 38/12 K/BB ratio, the league was hitting .175 against him and his WHIP was 0.91.

Lucas Duda:

8-18-11: - http://www.metstoday.com/6922/opinion-and-analysis/mets-2011-end-of-season-review  - Yes, Lucas Duda looks like Adam Dunn’s younger surfer brother and we should be thanking Jobu that he doesn’t hit like him. We know the Mets need a thumper desperately in this lineup. What the Mets do not need is a 21st century version of Dave Kingman. Duda reminds me of the Hulk trying to act like more like a Bruce Banner. I’m sure if he wanted, Duda probably could swing for the fences with every swing and chances are his natural power would eventually allow him to walk into a few. The problem is the cost of swinging so irresponsibly and I have a feeling that hitting coach Dave Hudgens has stressed bat control to Duda. He’s at the age, 25, where what you see is what you get and so far, with the added playing time, it’s hard not to like the dude.

Closer Pelfrey:

Mike Pelfrey as the Mets closer in 2012? I don’t think it’s a crazy idea. In the spirit of full disclosure, it was an idea broached yesterday by Howie Rose during an interview on WFAN. We have talked about the dilemma of Pelfrey the last few weeks. After last night’s outing, he is 6-10 with a 4.61 ERA. If you break down Pelfrey’s advanced stats this is a typical season for him, just without the fortune of run support. His career FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching), which measures strikeouts, walks, and homeruns- is 4.25. If you use his career xFIP, which normalizes the fly ball rate, its 4.50. In other words, Pelfrey is who you see and probably won’t get significantly better at the age of 27.- http://nybaseballdigest.com/?p=38796

Josh Satin

8-22-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/814874-new-york-mets-who-the-mets-should-add-to-their-40-man-roster-on-september-1st   - Josh Satin 2B Buffalo Bisons (Triple-A): 123 combined games with Buffalo and Binghampton, 12 HRs, 73 RBIs, .326 BA, 42 2Bs Satin, a 2008 sixth-round draft pick of the Mets out of Cal, has shredded Eastern and then International League pitching this season with his nice mix of power and contact. Second base is the most unstable position on the field for the Mets personnel-wise so he has a nice chance of entering the carousel. The position has been a revolving door of players the last two seasons and Satin looks like he could fit in well at that position. The Mets would be foolish not to give this kid a shot in the majors in September.

Rafael Montero:

8-23-11: - DSL 2011 End of Season Wrap-Up - http://www.nyfuturestars.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35808&sid=e8719b8eddffd9bc033d0ab708d8aff5  - Rafael Montero: 20 year old SP, started out great in the DSL. 4 starts, 18 IP, 7 H, 2 R/ER, 0 BB: 20 K - He then moved on to the GCL where in 7 games (4 starts) he produced a 1.45 ERA, with 32 K and just 6 BB in 31 innings - That was good enough to bump him to Kingsport where he has since struggled, with a 6.00 ERA in 3 starts, where his usual good BB:K ratio now 6 BB:5 K in 12 innings
