Cesar Puello and Darrell
Ceciliani continue to not play in St. Louis. Puello is nursing a sore foot while DC repulled his groin while celebrating his walk off.
As of “close
of business” Thursday night, there are 17 Mets minor league pitches, with the
same or more innings pitched than the ‘zero machine’, Josh
Edgin, that also have an ERA of 0.00:

-the Mets need to move TJ Rivera to St. Lucie. As Toby would say, the dude is
hitting .419 in A-ball and he’s already 23-years old. I’m not sure what the
Mets have here, but they’d have a much better idea if he was playing a level up
each day

- How old do you have to be to pass out on a mall bench?
-that’s great… let’s see… should I dial 911 or tweet some lame ass
line…
Ted Berg @OGTedBerg
- Again, Daniel Murphy should stay at second
base in David Wright's absence
The
pre-season question for New York Mets outfield prospect Cory Vaughn: was his poor performance in the second half last year
for High-A St. Lucie (.219/.308/.395) related to a nagging heel injury, or was
it a sign that his swing won't work against better pitching? Returning to St.
Lucie this spring, Vaughn is 8-for-27 (.296/.387/.556 slash line) through seven
games, with four doubles, a homer, three walks, and nine strikeouts. This is
more like the Mets wanted to see last year, particularly with the power
numbers, although he's still striking out a lot. I don't think anyone expects
him to hit for a great batting average, but his power potential is substantial
and he should draw some walks. The BB/K ratio is problematic, but as always,
the sample size is quite small at this point in the season. If he continues to
hit well, he will move up to Double-A later this year. Mr. Sickles
(nobody likes this guy’s swing…
nobody)
Boy, there’s an awful lot of errors
so far this young season on all the Mets minor league teams. Adam Loewen and Omar Quintanilla
cost Jeremy Hefner a chance on winning Friday
afternoon… Jordany Valdespin continues to play
CF, replaced at 2B by Bobby Scales. Josh Satin
has been relegated to DH which is doing him no good at all.

The first
four games of this year offered a showcase for Wright as the team’s once and
future star. The Mets shrugged at non-existent expectations, sweeping the
Atlanta Braves, then celebrating a ninth-inning victory over Washington. During
that run of fun, Wright batted .583, slugged .833 and contributed several nifty
defensive plays (with Wright missing, the Mets slipped into a two-game malaise
and dropped the series to Washington). The clubhouse rippled with expectations
that Wright was set for the type of dominant season he has not enjoyed since
2008. link

- Atta boy @Collin_McHugh that's how you do
it...great win tonight
Chris
Capuano turned his
strikeouts up a notch as he Ks seven Pirates in 5 1/3 innings Thursday night as
the Dodgers squeak by Pittsburgh 3-2. Unlike his first start, Capuano did not
walk a batter. That gives him 11 K and five walks in 10 innings. I watched a
bit of the game early, and the Pirates announcers were concerned that their
team was taking too many pitches for strikes. I wonder if they went into the
game expecting Chris to be wild? That backfired on them. musings
