The New York Mets have traded 3B prospect Jefry Marte to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for OF Collin Cowgill.
Cowgill is a right hand hitting OF who has played all three positions for both the Athletics and the Arizona Diamondbacks in limited time over the past 2 years. This past season he saw most of his time with Oakland's AAA in Sacramento and Baseball America named him the Best Baserunner, Best Defensive OF, and the Most Exciting Player in the Pacific Coast League in 2011.
The former 5th round pick had a triple slash line of .269/.336/.317 last season in 38 games with the A's. Doesn't have much pop but the bat could be steady enough for a .270 avg this season and there is 20+ steal potential in him.
(Another good pick-up by Sandy, at 26 he could be due for a breakout season if given the chance to start full time. Marte was another 3B who's going to be forever blocked by David Wright plus now it will allow Flores to go back to his natural position at 3B and possibly increase his trade value.)

This is an outstanding trade because Marte had no future as a Met.
Anything Cowgill does is a bonus.
He projects to be no more than a 4th OF but hey consistent playing could make him very useful league average CF.
If he can bat .270 with 20 SB's and play good defense then I'm happy.
