In Search For An
Outfielder – Los Angeles Dodgers
So far, we have
identified the following outfielders as possible targets for the Mets:
Atlanta – Reed Johnson
Arizona
– A.J. Pollock
Baltimore – Nolan Reimold
Boston
– Jerry Sands
Chicago
Cubs – Brett Jackson
Chicago White Sox - Dayan Viciedo
Cincinnati – Chris Heisey
Cleveland – Thomas Neal -
Colorado – Dexter Fowler
Detroit – none
Kansas City – none
Los Angeles Angels – Mark Trumbo
Pittsburgh – Jose Tabata
We now move on to the
Los Angeles Dodgers, who currently have only five (5) outfielders on their
40-man:
Alex Castellanos – righty – pre-ARB
Carl
Crawford – lefty – $21,857mil thru 2017 – LF -
Andre
Ethier – lefty – $17.5mil thru 2017 – RF - MLB – 20/89
Matt
Kemp – righty – $21.750mil thru 2019 – CF – MLB – 23/69
Yasiel Puig – righty – $42mil
thru 2017 – Cuban defector -
Jerry Hairston – righty – (also
plays 2B) - $3.75 for 2013/FA-2014 -
Skip Schumaker – lefty – (also
plays 2B) - $1.5 thru 2013/FA-2014 -
The Dodgers have made
this process pretty simple… all three positions are locked and loaded through
the 2017 season. Mark Ellis is the regular
second baseman, so there is no reason for three of them. Puig is a future
project that the Dodgers thought was worth signing and is far from MLB ready.
We can’t help but
keep getting back to Castellanos, who had 17-HR/52-RBI in AAA last year and got
23 end of the season MLB at bats as well (.174).
It’s had to find a
weakness on this team that could generate a trade. Possibly a backup catcher
like John Buck + a Flores level prospect.
Mets target: Alex Castellanos –
primarily RF… will play 2013 as a 26-year old… MLB ready… 17-HR, 52-RBI last
season in AAA…
