Some fans are slow to comprehend the magnitude of things.
Like what Tylor Megill accomplished in his first 3 Mets' starts - all of which were critical Mets wins against major competition.
I saw a few folks that said yeah, he's doing good, but he needs to cut down on his pitches. These days, who doesn't need to do that? We'd see lots of complete games from everyone if it was that simple.
Just 140 innings for the big fella in the minors. Just 45 IP above A ball in the minors.
What he's done in light of that is incredible.
Granted, he is a lot older than Doc Gooden was when he debuted.
But in Doc's first 6 outings in his rookie 1984 season, the inexperienced Dwight threw 30 innings and had a high 4.85 ERA.
From then on, Dwight got much better, very quickly, however.
Expect two things especially to improve with Tylor Megill, and soon:
More economic pitch counts, and going deeper into games.
I am going out on a limb, but I think it is a strong, fat limb, so I feel pretty sure-footed when I say:
TYLOR MEGILL WILL GET BETTER.
Why?
Because that has been his M.O. as a pro.
And - Jose Peraza?
Hitting just .213 thru Wednesday - but the dude is clutch.
Huge game tying HR off of the impossibly tough Josh Hader with the Mets a run down left Hader spewing expletives on the mound. Why the cussin'? Well, he got beat by some guy named Jose Peraza, not realizing Jose wears a Mr. Clutch mutant uniform under his Mets' jersey.
Bases empty this year for Jose? ZZZZ. Just .162. Leading off an inning? ZZZZ. Just .125.
Ahead in count? ZZZZ. Just .161. Behind in count? ZZZZ. Just .156.
But when his ABs end on the first pitch, when he is neither ahead nor behind? Well, Hader found that out the hard way. BOOM!
And Peraza with runners in scoring position in 2020?
7 for 24, 11 RBIs, 3 walks, just 2 Ks.
When the dude gets locked in....he gets CLUTCH.
He's a keeper.
CLUTCH is worth its weight in gold.
Funny that, in contrast, in that same game, Jeff McNeil had his first MLB walk-off hit on his 330th major league hit in his 297th major league game, even with his .308 lifetime average.

Not saying Jeff is not clutch, but it amplifies why you want a guy like Jose Peraza around. Jose comes up big in big moments. He comes up CLUTCH.
And he is still .267 lifetime.
Oh, and Mr. Clutch has more RBIs than either Villar or Conforto despite 73 less ABs than Villar and 36 less at bats than MC.
Yep folks, he's here for a reason.
The reason starts with the letter C.

Tom I hope there's more room on that limb because I'm joining you. Clutch is clutch it's that simple and we need more not less and no way in that spot do I want MC, Lindor or JM up sad but true. Also lets be thankful we made it through what could have been a disaster month and stayed on top way to go guys.
Gary, call me wrong, and I probably am, but I wonder if Conforto’s bout with Covid before spring training is having lingering effects.
4-0 in Megill starts. Remember that in October.
