#58 Ethan Moore
SS/2B, Oak Park & River Forest (IL)
18/years old 5'
11" 186
COMMITTED - Tennessee
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 45 |
Field: 50 | Overall: 50
Moore may be the best Illinois high school hitter since Alek
Thomas went in the second round of the 2018 Draft. He made hard contact
everywhere he went on showcase circuit last summer, including batting .357
without a strikeout in 16 plate appearances in the Area Code Games.
A switch-hitter, Moore features a compact swing and smacks
line drives all over the field, hitting the ball with more authority from the
left side of the plate. His combination of hitting ability, bat speed and
strength should produce 15-20 homers annually once he adds some more loft to
his stroke. He doesn't try to do too much at the plate, showing the aptitude to
work counts and hit the ball where it's pitched.
Moore's speed grades range from average to plus and he shows
good instincts on the bases. The Tennessee recruit is a reliable defender at
shortstop, though he lacks premium range and his fringy arm strength likely
will push him to second base in the future. Besides his physical ability, he
also earns praise for his intelligence and competitiveness.

52. Ethan Moore – 2B
HT/WT: 6’0/190 | Bat/Throw: S/R | School: Oak Park &
River Forest (IL) | Commitment: Tennessee | Age: 18.9
A switch-hitting infielder from Illinois, Moore profiles best
as a top-of-the-order sparkplug that can be a menace to opposing pitchers. The
pure definition of a slasher, Moore possesses flat swing planes from both sides
of the plate and laces liners to all fields.
He sits into his back leg well and employs a shift to
initiate his swing from both sides, possessing solid bat speed and great feel
for consistently finding the barrel. Moore loves to be aggressive on pitches in
the zone, too.
While there’s strength in his body, Moore’s power output is
limited. It’s below-average pop at best and he’ll utilize the gaps for extra
bases consistently, allowing his plus speed to impact the game. While he
doesn’t steal a ton of bases yet, that may change at the next level.
Moore profiles best as a future second baseman with good
balance, range, and footwork in the dirt. He projects to be a consistent
defender at the position long term. Moore recently committed to Tony Vitello’s
crew in Knoxville, though his hit/speed combination will garner plenty of
suitors.
2025 infielder Ethan Moore from River Forest, Ill. has
committed to Tennessee baseball, he announced Thursday evening on Threads.
Moore recently decommitted from Louisville and was in Knoxville this past
weekend for an official visit with the Vols.
The switch-hitting infielder is ranked by Perfect Game as the
No. 106 overall player in the country, the No. 35 overall shortstop and the No.
4 player in the state of Illinois.
"Compact athletic build with good present
strength," Perfect Game wrote about Moore after watching him play at the
2024 National Showcase. "6.80 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on
defense, has quick hands and gets low to the ground and in position to field
the ball, best playing on the run, has quick and sure glove to hand exchanges,
solid overall actions. Switch-hitter at the plate, hits from a spread stance
with a rock back load and a hard shift to his front side, carries momentum into
his swing, has quick hands and an accurate barrel from both sides, not quite as
under control and connected right handed but has bat speed from both sides,
nice game swings with hard contact."
2025 infielder prospect Ethan Moore flipped his commitment to
Tennessee baseball and head coach Tony Vitello.
Moore was committed to Louisville since 2022. He flipped his
commitment after taking an official visit when the Vols hosted Kentucky in
football on Nov. 2.
“Committed,” Moore announced.
The 6-foot, 190-pound switch-hitting shortstop is from Oak
Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park, Illinois.
Moore ranks as the No. 106 overall prospect in the nation and
No. 9 in Illinois.
