Bodine quickly established his hitting bona fides as a
Coastal Carolina freshman in 2023, ranking fifth in the Sun Belt Conference
with a .367 average before batting .384 in the Cape Cod League (which would
have edged future No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana for the title if he hadn't
fallen just short of qualifying). His numbers weren't quite as strong last
spring, though he carried a tiny 8 percent strikeout rate in both seasons. A
team that believes he can develop more power and refine his defense behind the
plate could be tempted to pop him in the first round.
A switch-hitter who's equally proficient from both sides of
the plate, Bodine has some of the best contact skills in the Draft. He has
tremendous feel for the barrel and doesn't try to do too much, focusing on
controlling the strike zone and drilling line drives from gap to gap. He rarely
launches balls in the air and has displayed little pop with wood bats on the
Cape, though optimistic clubs hope he'll be able to make adjustments to his
flat swing and get to 15 or more homers per year.
Bodine's lack of athleticism and agility limits him a bit
behind the plate, though his instincts help. He still needs to clean up his
receiving and blocking, which are average. With solid arm strength and a quick
release, he erased 41 percent of basestealers as a sophomore.

Sean Murphy being the catcher in Atlanta allows Bodine to
take his time developing. He is one of the best-hitting catchers in the draft
and also has a strong arm.

Sleeper No. 1 Pick: Caden Bodine
Typically, a switch-hitting college catcher renowned for his
bat-to-ball skills would be a lock to go No. 1 overall.
Caden Bodine has done nothing but hit wherever he's played.
He had a 1.065 OPS in 56 games as a freshman at Coastal Carolina and followed
it up with a .933 OPS in 60 games last season.
Bodine is more of contact hitter who will spray the ball to
all fields rather than someone who is likely to hit 25-plus homers, but he has
enough power to project as more than just a slap hitter.
The biggest thing that might keep Bodine from being the No. 1
pick is his defense behind the plate. Specifically, if he has the arm strength
to contain opponents from running. He has shown the ability to receive well and
is an adequate framer.
If the team that ends up picking at the top of the draft
believes strongly enough in Bodine as a long-term catcher in pro ball, he could
end up being the top pick because the bar for offense at the position is so low
and his hit tool would be special for virtually any spot on the field.

C Caden Bodine - Coastal Carolina
Prospects Live Ranking: #12
Bodine is one of the most impressive bats at the plate due to
his ability to get barrels easily, and he does it at an excellent level from
both sides. He ran up some absurd contact rates and had a good feel for the
strikezone. He can get overly aggressive sometimes, but he does a good job
keeping that mostly in check. Bodine has started to tap into more power but has
maxed out at 11 home runs in his freshman year. He struggled in a small sample
size in the Cape Cod League this summer, but he was limited to six games, given
he also spent some time with the USA Collegiate National Teams. Defensively,
Bodine has all the tools to stick behind the plate. He’s a force behind the
plate as he does a good job keeping the ball in front of him and has a decent
arm to throw guys out. There is a lot to like here for teams looking at him in
the 2025 MLB Draft, and another strong season should keep him high on draft
boards.

I sure hope that with Gutierrez, Zayas, and the other top international prospect, that one of the three at a minimum becomes a very viable back up to Alvarez within a few years.
If Parada's average doubled, it would still be mediocre. I will repeat that I would demote him, and see if his bat can reignite.
