Mike Puma NY Post: Offense wakes up just enough to give Mets, Colon a win. "The Mets snapped a scoreless streak that had reached 21 innings and Bartolo Colon handled the rest in a 3-2 victory that ended the team’s two-game skid. In his best performance of the season, Colon lasted 7²/₃ innings and allowed one run on five hits and struck out nine. The veteran right-hander cruised into the eighth with his shutout intact before Manny Machado homered with one out...Daniel Murphy’s RBI single in the fourth ended the Mets’ scoring drought. The team had last scored in the eighth inning on Friday, when Murphy delivered a three-run double on a ball the Nationals’ Jayson Werth misplayed in left field...Kevin Plawecki stroked a two-run double that made it 3-0."
Newsday: Bartolo Colon became the first pitcher in at least 100 years to beat the same opponent with seven different teams, stopping Baltimore once again and leading the New York Mets to a 3-2 win over the Orioles.
Bartolo (W,5-1) allows just 1 run on a Manny Machado homer over 7.2 innings, 9 Ks, 6 hits, no walks. Daniel Murphy singles in Lucas Duda and Kevin Plawecki doubles in Murphey and Wilmer Flores as part of a 3 run 4th.
Marlins and Braves also won to stay 4 games behind the 1st Place Mets.
