Jamerson Taillon:
4-6 from Jason Churchill/ http://www.baseballrumormill.com/2010/04/a-preliminary-top-5-mock-draft/#more - 3) Baltimore Orioles - Jameson Taillon, The Woodlands HS, RHP: The only concern with Taillon is that he might be looking for a signing bonus well above slot demands. The Orioles also have pitching depth in their farm system already and could look to someone like Manny Machado.
Thomas Keeling:
4-8 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/draft-tracker/2010/269779.html - Thomas Keeling, lhp, Oklahoma State - Despite this being his fourth year at Oklahoma State, Keeling had just 53 innings under his belt coming into this year—51 of which came last year. Keeling redshirted his freshman year (2007) because a growth plate in his shoulder blade was irritating a muscle and made just three appearances in 2008. The 6-foot-3, 184-pounder had the best strikeout rate (12.9 per nine innings) on a talented Oklahoma State pitching staff last year and profiled as a sixth- to eighth-round pick. He fell much lower than that because of his leverage as a redshirt sophomore and the Yankees selected him in the 20th round.
Alec Rash:
4-6 from: - link - RHP Alec Rash - This is a name to definitely store away for the future. The 6-4, 185 lb Rash is a 2012 prospect from a small town just west of Des Moines named Adel. I saw him at the PG Midwest Underclass Showcase last September when he was listed at 6-2, 165 lbs, and he threw 83-86 mph at that event from a raw delivery and had obvious potential. A bigger and stronger Rash sat at 88-89 mph on Saturday and his delivery mechanics and over-the-top release point were smoother and more consistent. He threw only fastballs and changeups this outing, although he did cut some fastballs with what seemed like intent. He showed nice spin on his curveball in September, so that ability is there.
Rick Hague:
4-7 from: - http://mlbbonusbaby.com/ - Rick Hague, 3B, Rice: Yes, I know Hague is a shortstop right now. I’ve also been one of the vocal supporters for keeping him at shortstop. However, I think the time has come to admit defeat. Hague has looked a step slower this spring, if not more than a step, and he looks destined for third base. That’s strike one in this instance. Strike two is that along with his declining range, his once plus hands have been inconsistent so far, flashing plus at times, but also flashing below-average and turning into stone. After a great showing with Team USA at third base last summer, I thought he’d easily be a plus defender there in the long run, but he’s starting to make me think that he might just be an average third baseman with no versatility. This is all before we get to the hitting. Hague’s struggles at the plate have been well-documented. He still hasn’t learned how to recognize a breaking ball with any sort of consistency, and he’s been pressing at the plate, probably a result of the combination between the slump he’s been in and the increased pressure of being in his draft year. He’s starting to come around a little bit, and his current slash line of .275/.344/.404 is better than it once was, but he’s gone from possible first round pick to third round pick or lower. This couldn’t happen to a better guy, too, as Hague gets good grades for makeup and work ethic, so I only hope that he can turn it around and reestablish some draft value.
