B-Mets GAME NOTES

LAST GAME: The B-Mets season opener was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning last night due to heavy thunderstorms that pelted NYSEG Stadium. At the time of the suspension, Akron had taken a 7-2 lead with a five-run fifth inning.Lucas Duda provided Binghamton’s two runs courtesy of a two -run homer in the fourth inning, which tied the game. Eric Niesen made the start and allowed three runs on four hits in four-plus innings. The game will be completed to nine innings tonight with the regular-scheduled game to follow as a seveninning contest.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Dylan Owen will make his first start of the 2010 campaign in the second game. Owen made 23 starts for Binghamton last season, chewing up a team-best 123 innings with a 4-10 record and 5.93 ERA. He was the Mets 20th round selection in the 2007 draft out of Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.

LHP Scott Barnes will go for the Aeros in the regularlyscheduled
game. The southpaw made six starts for Akron at the end of last year and racked up a 2-2 mark and a 5.68 ERA in 31.2 innings. He opened 2009 in the San Francisco Giants system with San Jose (High-A) before being traded to Cleveland’s system for first baseman Ryan Garko July 27. The native of Massachusetts pitched for St. Johns University and was drafted by the Giants in the eighth round of the 2008 draft.


THE DUDE ABIDES: Binghamton leftfielder Lucas Duda got off to a rip-roaring start with a two-run, opposite-field homer in his second at-bat of the season. He hit just one homer in his first 43 games with the B-Mets in 2009 (151 at-bats). Duda smoked nine homers a season ago
