Despite being saddled with the loss, Barnes racked up 14 strikeouts for Wareham and allowed just one walk, four hits, and one run over seven dominant innings of work. Results don’t always match the stuff and vice versa, but in this particular case there was no discrepancy. Barnes was filthy from the very first pitch of the game. He worked at 93-96 mph with his fastball, reaching 97 twice on my gun. For most of the game, he was steadily at 94-95 mph. And, while his secondary stuff was certainly there, it was his fastball that really set the tone. It showed big, late life and bored up and in on right-handed hitters all night long. When he was getting ahead in the count, his fastball was close to unhittable up and out of the zone. On top of that exploding fastball, the bad news for hitters was that he had his secondary pitches working as well. While his secondary pitches do not grade as highly as his fastball, he was able to consistently spot his breaking ball both for strikes and down out of the zone when he needed to. He threw some of his breaking balls at 74-77 mph with more of a curveball break, but more effective for him, was a harder, sharper two-plane breaking ball with a slider break at 78-81 mph. Barnes showed the ability to throw both breaking balls to the front door and back door to righty hitters, and coming off his plus fastball, there were a lot of paralyzed hitters taking called third strikes. Couple that with the quality changeup he flashed at 83-85 mph, an easy delivery and, at least to me, this is a top-15 talent heading into the 2011 draft.

7-3 from: - link - Rice sophomore third baseman Anthony Rendon is the recipient of the 24th annual Dick Howser Trophy as college baseball’s player of the year. The presentation was made Friday evening in Lubbock, Texas as part of the festivities to recognize and induct the College Baseball Hall of Fame and the awarding of several other national honors for 2010. Rendon is just the second player in Conference USA history to be named Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. He picked up that honor again this year while leading the Owls to the regular season league championship and the school’s 16th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.
7-4 from: - link - Though the 2010 Trials Roster is overflowing with talented positional players, the crown jewel entering this week is undoubtedly Anthony Rendon. The Rice third baseman put up one of the most impressive offensive performances in D-I ball this past Spring, finishing with a line of 302 PA, 226 AB, 89 H, 12 2B, 1 3B, 26 HR, 65 BB and just 22 SO, along with a slash line of .394/.530/.801. In addition to plus strikezone command and incredibly quick and strong wrists, Rendon possesses a solid glove at third with an ability to make the spectacular play, as well as plus arm strength with good accuracy. He should be a lock for the 2010 final roster and should hit right in the middle of a talented lineup. Rendon ranked as our top 2011 talent in an impressive field at the 2010 Houston College Classic this March.
Dylan Davis:
6-27 from: - link - Day two at TOS - RHP, Dylan Davis, listed at 6'0 200, more like 5'10 190, but he showed some good velocity up to 94, but straight and not deceptive at all or overpower, also has some bite to slider/curve, again, not deceptive, but put up numbers to keep the scouts excited, for me he needs to go to school after 2011. I like pitchers to show dominance and I didn't see that here. Pure arm strength though, yes!
7-5 from: - link - LHP, Tyler Peitzmeier, 6'0 1/2 170, L/L, 84-90 range, topped 90 early in game and flashed another 91 in the 7th inning last week. Plays for Douglas HS combination of schools in Class B district. Considering several big time programs for school, including Nebraska, UCLA and LSU. Only 2 scouts at this game, including a former big leaguer! High 3/4 arm slot, fb tails away naturally vs RHH, sinks when down, will cut fb on occ, cb has 1/7 break some 1/6 breaks, also teased a couple changes, maintained velocity in stretch but had to do that only 3 separate times. 7 IP and 16 k's, most were swinging k's… he will be playing his senior year at Platte Valley HS. He's also a QB on the football team
7-4 from: - link - Cole listed at a powerful 6-4/220 … Cole runs his fastball up to 98 mph, sitting 94-97, and backs it up with a mid-80s slider, upper-80s cutter and mid-80s straight change. On the season, Cole finished tied for 5th overall among D-I arms with 138 total strikeouts through regional play (he finished the season in Omaha with 154 total SO), and 12th overall with 11.50 SO/9. Owning some of the best pure stuff in college baseball, the UCLA ace still struggles with command and falls into bouts of wildness, resulting in a 4.08 BB/9.
