LAST GAME: Left-hander Mike Antonini matched his careerhigh
with nine strikeouts over six innings of one-run work and
Binghamton plated four runs in the seventh to break a 1-1
deadlock to knock off New Hampshire 5-1 Saturday night at
NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets rallied for four runs off reliever
Vince Bongiovanni, who committed an error to precipitate the
outbreak. With the go-ahead run at third and two outs, Bongiovanni
committed a throwing error on a Jon Malo comebacker,
bring the winning run home to score. D.J. Wabick and Marshall
Hubbard followed with RBI doubles and Josh Satin
capped the scoring with an RBI single to center, making it 5-1.
Fisher Cats starter Zach Stewart recorded a quality start of six
innings in which he allowed a lone run on seven hits. Binghamton’s
bullpen offered three scoreless innings of relief to
nail it down. Dylan Owen was credited with his third win for
tossing a scoreless seventh. Derrick Ellison and John Lujan
hurled the final two innings.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mark Cohoon will make
his fourth start for the B-Mets this afternoon. He worked a
season-low four innings in his last start, July 6 at Altoona, and
allowed two runs on three hits. Cohoon is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA
over 14.2 innings with Binghamton. He opened the season
with Savannah and racked up a 7-1 mark and a measly 1.30
ERA over 13 starts (90.1 IP). His ERA paced the South Atlantic
League, as did his three shutouts. Cohoon was a New York-
Penn League All-Star last season with Brooklyn (SS-A) thanks
to a 9-2 record and a 2.15 ERA over 92 innings. The Mets
drafted him in the 12th round of the June 2008 draft out of
North Central Texas College.
RHP B.J. LaMura is due for his eighth turn through the Fisher
Cats rotation. After losing three straight starts, the righthander
notched a win in his last go-around, July 6 at Portland,
with six innings of three-run work. LaMura is 2-3 with a 3.94
ERA over 14 appearances (7 starts) spanning 45.2 innings.
He spent 2009 in the Atlantic League (IND) with the Long
Island Ducks and made 28 starts, racking up a 10-10 mark
and a 4.95 ERA over 147.1 innings. LaMura was originally
drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the June
2002 draft out of Clemson.
ANTONINI - For the second straight
start, Mike Antonini recorded a career-high nine strikeouts
and again he offered up a quality start and failed to pick up a
win. Six of Antonini’s last eight starts have gone six innings or
better with three earned runs or less (a quality start). He has
struck out 25 men in his last 19 innings and ranks fourth in
the Eastern League in punchouts (82) and fifth in innings
pitched (105.1).
