1) Richie Shaffer
3-7-11: - bullpenbanter. - Player: Richie Shaffer College: Clemson University Position: First Base Bats/Throws: R/R Height/Weight: 6'3" / 205 lbs. Tall and athletic frame Patient approach early in the count; got more aggressive when ahead Fooled by change up and curve, seemed to be looking fastball Good bat speed; extends arms well Did a tremendous job fouling off pitches with 2 strikes; 14 pitch at bat culminating in a line drive single into LF on a pitch on the outer half
2) Conrad Gregor
6-17-11: - http://baseballdraftreport.com/ FR 1B/OF Conrad Gregor (2013)
.351/.454/.464 – 29 BB/23 K – 151 AB - We knew Gregor had huge raw power. We didn’t know his freshman year approach would be so solid. I might seem overly optimistic on all of the players mentioned in the College World Series prospect series, but you have to remember this is an unusually talented CWS group. Gregor has that plus raw power, a potential plus hit tool, outstanding defense at first and average defense in an outfield corner, a strong throwing arm…in other words, just about everything you’d want in a prospect. Aaron Westlake went in the third round this year; it’ll be interesting to see if Gregor, a better player at this point in his development, can improve on that in two years.
3) Dominic Ficociello
6-21-11: - http://bullpenbanter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=398:college-baseball-weekend-05-observations&catid=18:articles&Itemid=11 - Player: Dominic Ficociello College: University of Arkansas Position: First Baseman Bats/Throws: S/R Height/Weight: 6'4" / 185 lbs. Tall and lanky build with thin thighs and plenty of room to fill out Open stance and busy hands pre-swing, long finish Generates excellent bat speed with quick hands; very fluid swing Pitch recognition issues, especially with low and inside breaking balls while batting left handed
7-7-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=59881B Dominic Ficociello School: Arkansas Ht.: 6-4, Wt.: 185 Hometown.: Fullerton, Calif High school: Fullerton Union The future is bright for the Razorbacks with Ficociello and others leading the way. Dominic led the Hogs at the plate this season, hitting .335 with 15 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 50 RBIs. He also slugged .464 and recorded 104 total bases.
7-9-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6002 - Dominic Ficociello, 1B/3B, Arkansas - Ficociello's advanced approach to hitting was on display during his freshman year for the Razorbacks, leading the team in batting. A switch-hitter, his approach and swing is similar to that of former Arkansas infielder Zach Cox. Like Cox, not only does Ficociello excel at going with pitches up the middle and the other way, but he also has the ability to drive the ball down the lines. He is built tall and lean with broad shoulders, a perfect recipe to add to his current power potential.
4) Justin Bellinger
7-1-11: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=268 - Justin Bellinger, 1B/LHP, 2014 - All-American Prospects (Northeast Team) - It's easy to see where the freak-of-nature Bellinger gets his size from. Just attend anyone of his games and you will see another monster, his father, out there somewhere supporting him. It didn't take Vanderbilt long to see that the 6'5"/220 pound Bellinger was going to help their program, as they locked down the 1B/LHP real early. In many ways, his frame probably reminded them of Jack Armstrong Jr. But the similarities end there. Bellinger has big power potential offensively and although his velocity off the mound is in the low 80s now, he has more coming
5) Jason Monda:
7-11-11:- http://collegebaseball360.com/2011/07/11/cape-cod-baseball-playerpitcher-awards-july-11 - Brewster leadoff hitter extraordinaire Jason Monda (Washington State) is this week’s Coca Cola Player of the Week. Monda recorded at least two hits in all but one of his team’s contests this week, highlighted by a two-for-three performance against Harwich that included a triple and two stolen bases. Monda has a .375 batting average this season. That mark would tie him for the Cape League lead, but Monda’s at-bat total is just short of qualifying him for the race. Monda just completed his freshman year at Washington State, where his father also played baseball. He is a draftee of the Colorado Rockies, who selected him in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball draft following his senior year of high school.
