The Reyes MRI, Jack Leathersich, The Captain, Roger McDowell, Jefry Marte

The Reyes MRI:

Agents for Jose Reyes have demanded that they receive a 2nd MRI on Jose’s boo boo, which continues to prevent him from getting back in the lineup. Sure, Sandy Alderson replaced Omar Minaya, but the Reyes peeps definitely remember how past medical snafus have developed during the recovery process. There’s simply too much money on the line for everyone in the Reyes posse and there is no way he’s getting back on that field until Dr. Kildare, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Dr. Dre all sign off on this one.

Jack Leathersich:

7-7-11: - Jack twittered late yesterday afternoon that he would be making his prop debut today, for Brooklyn. 5th rounder… 5-11, 205, LHP out of UMass-Lowell. Had a wonderful freshman season that got him Freshman Of The Year… fastball sits 89-91… two average breaking balls, a sluve and a curve. Scouts were concerned with mechanics… Last year: 89 IP, 55 H, 27 BB, 126 K, 0 HR, 6-2, 1.62 ERA, .175 BAA

The Captain:

7-7-11: - The word on Kirk Nieuwenhuis is he has finally run out of good shoulders. This time it’s the left one, and, according to Adam Rubin, the rehab just isn’t working, and he’s unable to swing a bat. It’s around mid-June and the season ends at the end of August. Right now, he’s one of the few outfield prospects that can help a Queens team in 2012 and I’d feel much better having him shut down, do whatever procedure an MRI confirms that’s needed, and let him get his game back in winter ball.

Roger McDowell:

Roger McDowell (1985-89): The “second spitter” was never really a full time closer, splitting the duties with another guy on this list, but he was quite effective. During his tenure with the Amazins, McDowell pitched to a 3.13 ERA and 1.234 WHIP, while saving 84 games. He was also outstanding in the 1986 NLCS against the Houston Astros, tossing seven scoreless innings while only allowing one hit. His five shutout innings of relief in Game Six of that series were crucial in order for the Mets to win the game and advance to the World Series. - http://risingapple.com/2011/07/07/top-five-closers-in-mets-histor y

Jefry Marte:

7-7-11: - http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/7/7/2263375/2011-mlb-all-star-futures-game-roster-review-world-team-hitters  - Jefry Marte, 3B, New York Mets: Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2007. Hitting .279/.343/.398 with five homers, 28 walks, 55 strikeouts, and 10 steals in 294 at-bats for High-A St. Lucie. Scouts like his raw power and strong throwing arm, but he's error-prone with the glove and hasn't fully blossomed with the bat yet. Age 20. Major League ETA: 2014.
