No More Chit Chat

You might have noticed that manager Terry Collins said he wasn’t going to have any more rah-rah meetings before each game. The Mets have obviously thrown the towel in and are concentrating on determining who they want to keep around next year for the nucleus of the 2012 team.

In an exclusive (sic) interview with Mack’s Mets, Collins said there will be some additional changes during the remainder of the season.

“I’ve decided not to play anyone else for the rest of this year at second base. There’s nothing in it for us,” said Collins. “They either get injured or screw up the double play.” Instead, Collins plans on having two right fielders because “it’s pretty tough to play out there.”

Collins also said that he thought the team played much better when they are on the road. Speaking of CitiField, Collins said: “we’re trying to come up with a way of not going back to that place.” I tried to point out to him that something like that would take league approval, which Collins shrugged off. “To hell with the league,” barked Collins. “Don’t they still have that stadium up in Montreal? We’ll play there.”

I asked Terry about the September call-ups and he said he had some ideas about that: “I’m thinking of just promoting the entire Buffalo team and letting these guys have the rest of the year off.” He smiled, and added: “But that would take designating everyone for assignment and Nick Evans said he couldn’t take that again.”

Collins cut the interview short, saying he had some pressing matters to handle. I tried catching up to him to ask about his thoughts about resigning Jose Reyes, but security stopped me from entering the laundry room where Terry was ironing Jose’s pants.
