B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

SUNDAY CANCELATION: The B-Mets series finale against the Altoona Curve scheduled for Sunday night was canceled due to inclement weather. It will not be made up.

LAST GAME: Pinch-hitter Reese Havens sent the first pitch he saw from Anthony Claggett over the right-centerfield fence to give Binghamton a 7-6 walk-off win in twelve innings over the Altoona Curve on Saturday night. The teams waited through a 61-minute rain delay before slugging things out through the first three innings. The B-Mets put up a four-run first inning highlighted by Allan Dykstra’s two-run triple, only to see the Curve respond with a four-run third. Tobi Stoner was tagged for five runs on eight hits in a no-decision. Brahiam Maldonado tied the game with a solo shot in the fourth, but Altoona plated a run in the fifth off Erik Turgeon to take the lead. The B-Mets trailed until the ninth when Matt den Dekker reached on Matt Curry’s fielding error, moved to third on a sac bunt, and scored on a wild pitch from Noah Krol. Havens’ blast in the 12th, just four minutes shy of midnight, ended the three hour, fifty minute contest. Josh Stinson hurled 2.2 scoreless innings for the win.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Matt Harvey makes his 11th start with the B-Mets and second-straight against the Erie SeaWolves. Harvey outdueled fellow prospect Drew Smyly in his last start, defeating the SeaWolves at NYSEG Stadium on Au-gust 22. Harvey struck out five and allowed just four hits over seven shutout innings to earn his fourth-straight win.

LHP Casey Crosby will make his 24th start of the season and fourth against Binghamton. The southpaw was roughed up for eight runs on eight hits, including three home runs, over five innings in a loss to the B-Mets in his last start on August 24. In his three previous starts versus Binghamton, Crosby has gone 2-1 with a 4.67 ERA. The B-Mets are hitting .219 against him.

WALK-OFF WINNERS: Reese Havens’ walk-off homer in the 12th inning on Saturday night was Binghamton’s first game-ending home run since Ambiorix Concepcion took Ronnie Ray deep in the bottom of the tenth on July 30, 2008 to beat the Connecticut Defenders by a 4-3 score.

A RARE COMEBACK: Saturday night’s comeback win against the Curve was just Binghamton’s third win of the year when trailing after eight innings. Both previous ninth-inning come-back wins came against the Trenton Thunder (5/14 & 6/12).

CENTURY CLUB: Brahiam Maldonado’s home run last night was his 100th hit of the year. It is the third straight year the out-fielder has collected at least 100 hits.
