Lakeland Defeats Mets 4-2
PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. — Lakeland rallied with a four-run sixth inning and held off the Mets 4-2 at Tradition Field on Wednesday.
The Flying Tigers have won the first three games of the series and held the Mets to just three combined runs. The Mets were limited to five hits for the second straight game.
Rainy Lara had retired 13 straight at one point and had been cruising through five innings before the Flying Tigers rallied. Lara committed a throwing error to first and Chad Wright’s RBI single made it 2-1. Cam Maron had a missed catch at home plate for an error that resulted in the second run of the inning. Jeff McVaney’s go-ahead RBI single to right made it 3-2 and they added a run on an RBI fielder’s choice from Jason Krizan.
Lara allowed four runs(one earned) and five hits over 5 1/3 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Jim Fuller pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. Hamilton pitched a scoreless eighth and T.J. Chism worked around a bases loaded jam in the ninth.
The Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Dustin Lawley’s RBI ground rule double scored T.J. Rivera to make it 1-0. Aderlin Rodriguez’s RBI groundout to second scored Matt Reynolds to give the Mets a 2-0 advantage.
The Mets will host the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Thursday at Tradition Field at 6:30 p.m. Domingo Tapia is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
