Flash: C Francisco Pena Signs with Royals

After declaring minor league free agency this offseason, former Mets farmhand catcher Francisco Pena has signed a major league deal with the Kansas City Royals according to mlb.com's Dick Kaegal.

Pena hit .254 with 9 HR AND 43 RBI while throwing out 30% of would be basestealers last season while spending time in both Binghamton and Las Vegas.

I was there the day he arrived in Savannah... 16 years old... mother standing outside the clubhouse... agent sitting next to me behind home plate...

He was going to be the answer to all our problems behind the plate.

There just was two problems...

He couldn't catch and he couldn't hit.
