Mack Ade - Ryan Braun

I would have absolutely no problem with Ryan Braun playing first base or left field for the New York Mets. I could easily see trading Ike Davis and Rafael Montero for him and could care that he didn’t tell the truth regarding his usage of PEDs. The guy averaged over 30 home runs for six seasons in a row and he couldn’t possibly be taking these ‘healing’ substances for this period of time. Anything he did was in 2013, the year he needed all this healing to take place.

Braun would play 2014 at 30 years old and has a $19-20mil/year contract through 2020. He’s also on a team whose fan base has soured on him and the team would love to dish him off to a team like the Mets. These are the kind of negotiations that Sandy Alderson lives for. I can easily see him walking away with only having to pay around 50% of the existing contract.

Braun is a genuine star of this game. The world is imperfect and he, like many, made a mistake. The Mets that we all write about and root for need players with exceptional talent. I do question his character but I would have no problems slotting him in the lineup behind David Wright and before Travis d'Arnaud

Lastly, I was asked last night who I would rather sign, Roberson Cano or Braun. The answer is simple. Take away the money and I'd go for Cano. He knows the city and doesn't have the checkered pass that Braun has. Also, don't take all this $300mil crap serious. That was something that was thrown out there prior to the FA season by his agent

There is a good chance that Cano will sign for the same kind of contract that currently exists for Braun.

Still, Braun or Cano... there are players I didn't expect to be discussing right now and, if you think it is too early in the process to get something like this done, do ask the Tigers and the Rangers this morning about Ian Kinsler and Prince Fielder.

All it will take is one .280+ / 30+ homer / 100 rbi season and nobody will care anymore about what he did/said.........although, same exact thing can be said about Ike putting up same numbers.

What if......the Mets take on all the money that is owed to Braun?
Could Ike and an OFer prospect (Kirk, Valdy, Brown, Vaughn, Den Dekker) be enough? Perhaps add an arm like Lara/Cessa

Dreaming is nice in November. Did you hear the rumor that the Angels are going to trade Trout to the Mets?
No, neither did I!!!!
And Braun is going nowhere this year. He is the face of the Brewers franchise. It's like the Mets saying that they are in the market to trade David Wright.

Well not necessarily Lyle.

It has been reported that The Brewers are more apped to trade Braun then they are Aoki.

On paper the Mets do match up will as trade partners with them. As unlikely as it is that braun will be traded....it isn't outside the realm of possibility.

A Cano or Braun-level player is exactly what the Mets need. They need to bring in an impact player this offseason for obvious reasons. It's time for this team to make a statement. It's a NY-team and it's about time they start acting like it. The Wilpon's and Alderson better do something on this scale during the offseason. The only caveat to this, is that I would not give up Syndegaard under any circumstance. But I do think it would take more than Ike and Rafael to land a former, albeit disgraced, MVP. As for Cano, no brainer, they definitely should make a run at him.

Matt Cerrone is a reporter now?? Just because he wrote it doesn't make it true. He looks awful stupid this morning.

Too bad Omar isn't here.. If he was.. They'd off hard after Braun and break the bank for Cano. Imagine those two In this lineup?

Jonah - Yes, I believe the key to this deal would be the amount of salary the Mets would take on

Lyle -

You are probably as right as the guys that thought Prince Fielder was going to be traded... in November... for someone with half the contract

Face of the franchise like Wright? Nonsense, Wright doesn't carry the tarnished reputation.

As of now it would take Noah. I agree with Mack, I would send Davis and Montero but also include Puello if it would get it done.

Doug Melvin announced definitively today that Braun is not going to be traded. I've been hoping for him all off season, but it looks like it is not to be. Theey may still trade Aoki though.

MLB Trade Rumors has an article about the Angels possibly trading an outfielder, and they need a 3B snd pitching. I'd love to put together a deal for Kole Calhoun.
