Tom Brennan - LET'S PLAY SOME NEW YORK METS BASEBALL!

My nephew, niece & her friend, & some former Mets player, when fans were allowed!

So....the Mets play Atlanta today to start this 2020 season on July 24, which leads one to ask:

Not how do the Mets do in Opening Day games (incredibly great, if you don't know).

But...

How the heck do the Mets play after the All Star break, especially starting in August, since this opener pretty much coincides with when teams normally re-start play after the annual All Star break?

Well, sometimes great, sometimes not so great.

1969?  Great.

Plenty of teams that swooned in Metsville after the break too, like those collapse seasons against the Phillies back about 15 years ago.

But more applicable is how the Mets did in, say, the past few seasons in August and September.

In 2018, after a disgusting 5-21 June, the Mets went 15-15 in August and 18-10 in September.  33-25 after going 44-60 before August.

In 2019, 34-21 after July, while going 52-55 before August.

I know that in September, teams tend to play some scrub guys which, if you're playing your A team against them, could lead to more wins.  But those last two post-July's were impressive.

Of course, the 2017 Mets team that won 70 games was awful the last two months, going 22-37, but 2015 and 2016 were awesome late in the season.  2016?   33-25.  2015?   37-22.

I think this team has strong August and September finishes in its DNA.

So forget those 2 Mets-Yankee games last weekend - they don't count.  And let's average out the post-July pace of 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019, and let's expect and we ought to end up 36-24.  Take that to the bank.

I mean, let's get real....Pete LFGM Alonso?  Awesome.  MVP?

Jeff McNeil?  Already in the Squirrel Hall of Fame, can Cooperstown not let him in, too?

Amed Rosario puts it all together in 2020.  .319 after the ASB in 2019, why not the same in 2020?

JD Davis and Cano give a solid 4th IF with the bat.  Lowrie will even get 1 or 2 ABs.

Nimmo will get on base more than he smiles.

Conforto no doubt expects to hit more dingers than Alonso - and why not?

Cespedes is older - but not old with the bat.  Keep your tape measure handy for La Potencia.

Ramos/Nido at catcher gives a good mix of O and D.

Jake?  How do you spell Trifecta?

Matz?  Break out season.  Hide the Clearasil.

Porcello and Wacha will make you smile with their competence.

Marcus (Marky Mark) Stroman wants the big contract and will pitch like it.

Pen?

I'll take my chances with Betances.

Edwin will help them win.

Familia lost tonnage, and his ERA will lose tonnage, too.

Lugo is...well, Lugo.  Dictionary synonym for Lugo? Awesome.

The rest of the bull pit will sort itself out.

Let's play ball.

Screw the tough competition.

36-24.

If fans disagree with me, well...

JUST...STAY...HOME.

The talent is there.

Still, we need to get through the first 2 revamped rotation cycles... plus it would be nice if our bats wake up starting tonight.

Mack, one bat woke up. Alonso is in a HR Derby now with Yo. May the best man win.
