Mets Links:

NY Post: The injury occurred Friday, according to manager Luis Rojas, when Stroman took a line drive off the calf in an intrasquad scrimmage. Stroman kept pitching and threw a bullpen session three days later.

NY Post: Jacob deGrom will start Friday’s opener against the Braves, who will counter with Mike Soroka, at Citi Field. Steven Matz will get the nod Saturday, squaring off against Max Fried, with Rick Porcello set to make his Mets debut in Sunday’s series finale.

MLB Trade Rumors: Eduardo Núñez Makes Mets’ season-opening roster.

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets 2020 preview: Shaky bullpen will make or break playoff chances.  Prediction: 33-27; In a full season the Mets are probably an 88-89 win team, so this is the prorated version. It should be good enough to keep the Mets in the hunt for the NL East title and at the very least the wild-card race. The lineup could be among the league’s best and the rotation remains solid, but let’s see about the bullpen.

Newsday: Mets prepared for a wild ride in a 60-game season. Dominic Smith: “There’s things that we don’t even know are going to happen over the next couple [months] that will happen . . . Whatever it is, we’re going to have fun with it, keep an open mind to it and just try to do our jobs.”

NY Daily News: Chili Davis dishes on the difficulties of working from home and Jeff McNeil’s natural hitting ability. Davis, 60, is dealing with underlying health conditions that consider him high-risk to contract COVID-19. For that reason, he’s instructing Mets hitters through various Zoom calls, text messages, WhatsApp messages and regular phone calls.

Mets.com: Mets slugger Pete Alonso announces he will be partnering with Citi on a new monthly blog that will be featured on Mets.com.

Mike’s Mets talks about Stroman’s injury in Playing Doctor: “Anyway, there's no reason to worry about Stroman too much. I have it on good authority that Stroman has secured the doctor who is guiding Jed Lowrie through his rehabilitation.”

Joel Sherman NY Post: What to watch for in MLB’s 60-game season: The top storylines of 2020. Among the questions Joel asks are Will the ball fly again? Will games be faster or slower? Can the Nationals become the first team since the 1998-2000 threepeat Yankees to win consecutive titles?

Mack’s Blast From the Past 7/23/2014: Stephen Guilbert- Why Infield Defense Matters.  It is insane--let me be clear: Not just illogical, not something to consider, not merely a "bad idea"--it is insane to build a team around ground ball pitchers and play poor defenders behind them in the infield. Absolutely insane.

I read Stroman could miss several weeks. This team should find the snake that always bites it.

I wonder if a Dom Smith or JD Davis trade to get a quality starter might be possible. I'd hate to see them go...but...Don't trade any high picks please.

We very very lucky last year to avoid the SP injury bug...

I have no long term plan for any player this year, but, in a 60 game season, always play the hot hitter.

Start Dom for the first 3 games...
