Any implication that the A-Rod/J-Lo group is out of the running for the Mets is incorrect. Craig Anderson throws a seven-hit,
complete-game against Cincinnati, but New York cannot overcome Marv
Throneberry's error which would have ended the fifth inning, allowing Vada
Pinson to hit a two-out, two-run homer. The eventual 5-3 defeat at Crosley
Field makes the right-hander the third consecutive Mets' starter, following
losing efforts by Jay Hook and Roger Craig, to pitch a complete game and not
get a victory.

Ignoring Clay Kirby's bid for the
Padres' first no-hitter in the 259th of their existence, San Diego skipper
Preston Gomez, with his club trailing the Mets, 1-0, in the eighth inning,
decides to pinch hit for his starting pitcher. Reliever Jack Baldschun fails
to keep New York hitless, yielding a leadoff hit to Bud Harrelson, and San Diego
eventually loses the Jack Murphy Stadium contest, 3-0. (Ed. Note: The Padres
remain the only franchise without a no-hitter. LP)

Mets' infielder Joe Torre becomes
the first player in National League history to hit into four straight double
plays in one game. Felix Millan singles in four consecutive at-bats against
the Astros, making the dubious mark possible.

1970 - Clay Kirby has a no-hitter going for eight innings, but with two outs in the 8th
and trailing 1 - 0, Padres manager Preston
Gomez lifts him for
a pinch hitter, Cito Gaston. Gaston fails to get a hit off Mets starter Jim McAndrew, and reliever Jack
Baldschun gives up two runs in
the 9th. The Padres lose, 3 - 0. Gomez will repeat the controversial move
on September 4, 1974.
1975:
The Mets' Felix Millan has four straight singles
but is wiped out each time when Joe
Torre grounds into four straight double plays, tying a major league record.
New York loses, 6 - 2, to the Astros.
1976: Montreal trades
OFs Jim
Dwyer and Pepe Mangual to the New
York Mets for OF Del Unser and INF Wayne Garrett. The Mets lose
to the Reds, 4 -
0, on Fred Norman's four-hitter.
2018 - The Mets trade closer Jeurys
Familia to the Athletics for two prospects and $1 million in international bonus money.

I can't believe the Mets would ever have traded Jesse Gonder. The catcher hit .302 as a Met in 1963 in 128 ABs. That earned him 341 ABs in 1964 when he hit .271. In a time of non-hitting by the Mets, he was a happy difference.
Someone on facebook posted, "where should Cano hit in the line up?" My reply? Eleventh. If he is their 11th best hitter, treat him accordingly.
Lowrie went from Iron Man pre-Met to putz for the Mets. I just hope he can match last year's 7 at bats. Pro-rate it, and he'd need just 3.
Marisnick might be out, they need a defensive CF - is Tim Tebow nearby?
Jed Lowrie went to the plate 1,325 times in the two years before the Mets got him. All you can do is laugh. Knowing we had McNeil, his acquisition prior to 2019 made little sense. But cost a lot of cents.
Tom - Johneshway Fargas may be a better option than Tebow and he gives them speed. Mets may have to think of carrying a pinch runner type of player to run for Cespedes late in games.
And I read the other day that Juan Lagares is available. 😄
Should have re-singed Juan, kept Blake Taylor and Kenedy Corona. Not one of Brodie's best moves.
Speaking of triples, I stil can’t get Rosario’s triple out of my mind from Sunday night. A triple on a ball hit into the pull, left field corner! Incredible speed!
