SNY.TV: Mets pitcher Edwin Diaz 'won't lose confidence' despite Saturday's blown save against Braves. Right-hander said he made his pitch, but just got beat by Marcell Ozuna.

Mets360.com: “Edwin Diaz made a winner out of those who had “Game 2” in the pool predicting when he would blow his first save of the season, as he failed to close out a lead.”

Metstradamus- Next Time, Shake Off The Fastball: “The Mets finessed themselves into a Game 2 typical Met gut punch loss. I blame you. Because you wanted baseball back to heal the nation. But all it did was scar my heart again.”

Mike’s Mets: “It Was Good Until It Wasn't”: “This was one of those games that made me wonder why I missed baseball so much while it was gone. The offense was still out of sync, but the pitching was really great for 8-2/3 innings. Unfortunately, everything went to hell for that last inning and a third, and the winning streak ended at one.”

SNY.TV: Mets' manager Luis Rojas praises bullpen, announces Wacha as fourth starter. Mets have not yet announced who will start fifth game of season against Boston.

NY Post: Mets’ Brad Brach thankful family OK after coronavirus scare. “The Mets reliever, who had previously just thought he had a cold, then realized what was coming — a positive test result — which forced him to miss the entire camp leading into Friday’s season opener. Brach’s wife, Jenae Cherry, who was late into her pregnancy, also tested positive, which added a scare to the situation.”

Mack’s Blast From the Past - Mets Minor League Report: July 26, 2014:  Binghamton (63-43) bashes Trenton (50-58) 10-7.  Despite getting outhit by the Thunder 12-18, the B-Mets made their hits count. Timely hitting and a 4 run 7th inning lifted the Mets to a big win.  Gabriel Ynoa: 5.0 IP, 4 R, 8 H, (HR) 2 BB, 2 K. What is going on with Dilson Herrera? 3-5, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R. Since joining the Mets from Pittsburgh in the Buck/Byrd trade, this kid has upped his game and done nothing but hit. The little guy (listed at 5’10”, 150 lbs) is hitting .353 with Binghamton, despite a -4.7 yr. age differential. (I.e. he is 4.7 years younger than the average AA player.)  Brandon Nimmo: 1-3, BB, 2 R.

Transactions:

New York Mets released
Brandon Knight on July 26, 2009.

New York Mets released Miguel Batista on July 26, 2012.

1962
Braves hurler Warren Spahn, en route to a complete-game victory, homers off Mets right-hander Craig Anderson to set the National League record for round-trippers hit by a pitcher. The southpaw's 31st career home run helps Milwaukee extend New York's losing streak to 11 with a 6-1 victory at County Stadium.
2012
Matt Harvey sets a Mets record for strikeouts in a major league debut previously established and shared by Tom Seaver and Bill Denehy with nine when he fans 11 batters in the team's 3-1 victory over Arizona at Chase Field. In his 5.1 innings on the mound, the rookie right-hander gives up three hits, while collecting two hits in the batter's box.

1964: The Braves sweep the Mets in a doubleheader at Shea Stadium, but Atlanta uses 11 pitchers to do it. The Mets also use 11 pitchers, a two-team record, as the Braves win, 11 - 7 and 15 - 10. Both wins go to Chi-Chi Olivo who toils just 2 2/3 innings.

1975 - Bill Madlock goes 6 for 6 during the Cubs' 10-inning, 9 - 8, loss to the Mets.

1978: Johnny Bench hits his 300th career home run, off Nino Espinosa, and Pete Rose hits in his 39th straight game, but the Reds bow to the Mets, 12 - 3.

2012: Matt Harvey strikes out 11 Diamondback hitters in his major league debut, beating the Mets franchise record of 9 held by Tom Seaver and Bill Denehy; it is the most in a debut since Stephen Strasburg fanned 14 for the Nationals two years ago. Harvey allows no runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings, before leaving because of pitch count issues; for good measure, he also goes 2 for 2 at the plate, with a double off Wade Miley for his first major league hit. He gets credit for the Mets' 3 - 1 win at Chase Field.

Brad Brach, great news on his beating COVID and his wife too, and congrats on the twins. We need you in the pen, so hopefully, you can ramp back up quickly - and you can let the players know not to drop their guards on social distancing, because you've been there.

I didn't know he beat Covid AND his wife. Doesn't that call for a long suspension? 😉

Bill, there you go!

I just noticed Zack Wheeler went 7 innings of tidy one run ball in his first winning start. I guess the low budget Coupons should have signed him.
