Newsday: After sitting out 2020 because of COVID-19 concerns, LI's Marcus Stroman returns to Mets with confidence.

SNY.TV: Mets ace Jacob deGrom ranked No. 3 on MLB Network's Top 100 Players Right Now. Two-time Cy Young winner was the only pitcher in the Top 10.

SNY.TV: Mets' Updated Top 20 Prospects for 2021 season. 1. Francisco Alvarez; 2. Matthew Allan; 3. Ronny Mauricio; 4. Pete Crow Armstrong; 5. Brett Baty; 6. J.T. Ginn; 7. Mark Vientos; 8. Khalil Lee; 9. Robert Dominguez; 10. OF Alexander Ramirez; 11. Thomas Szapucki; 12. Franklyn Kilome; 13. Freddy Valdez; 14. Junior Santos; 15. Jaylen Palmer; 16. Shervyen Newton; 17. Jake Mangum; 18. Carlos Cortes; 19. Michel Otanez; 20. Ryley Gilliam;

MLB.com: Each team's prospect to watch in spring.  For the Mets - Mets: Matthew Allan, RHP (MLB No. 75). For all of its promising position-player talent, the Mets' system is actually fairly low on pitching, and that will put even more eyes on the 2019 third-rounder…Allan’s fastball and curve both have plus potential, and he and the Mets seemed even more pleased with the development of his changeup in 2020. How often he goes to that third option will be followed closely in Florida.”

Mets.com: Stroman confident; prospects impressing. ”That includes teenage catching prospect Francisco Alvarez, who has impressed Rojas during batting practice, and pitching prospect Matthew Allan, who threw a bullpen session Thursday. ‘The ball looks really good coming out of his hand,’ Rojas said of Allan. ‘We’ve heard great reports of our young prospects, but it’s good to see them in action, taking reps right now.’”

Joel Sherman NY Post: Mets’ fundamental problem never seems to change.  Joel goes into detail the problems the Mets have had with defense, stopping the other team’s running game and running the bases themselves and includes this “Alderson has a three-decade team-building philosophy of walks and homers — bats over defense, bats over baserunning.”

SNY.TV: Mets 'open-minded' about using an opener this season, says Luis Rojas.

The Brooklyn Trolley Blogger: Difference Between Good and Great Could Be Carlos Carrasco. “Carrasco appears craftier than ever.  The only outstanding concern about Carlos is his stamina.  Last season he averaged 5.2 innings per start…and is entering what we all hope is his first full season since 2018, the year before his diagnosis.”

Well, the Phillies "caught" up to the Mets in the injury dept with JT Realmuto suffering a broken thumb on his throwing hand.

Amazing with all the Francisco Alvarez buzz and missing a full season, he will play all this year as a 19 year old.

Jake is # 3, and McNeil is number 35, a very impressive (and possibly understated) ranking in the MLB top 100. I think Nimmo will prove to be better than #89 also.

Stroman may ooze confidence, but he is not in the top 100.

Hopefully, the Mets' defense (including catcher CS %) and base running will considerably improve in 2021. It needs to be closer to league average on all 3 counts. Room to win at least 5 more games than otherwise, if they do.

Tom - You wonder if the Mets will try to somehow fast track Alvarez. His bat may be ready but he may need more time behind the player before being able to handle Major League Pitchers. Good that he can spend time with them in camp this year.

I wanted JT Realmuto, but I think James McCann will win over many fans. I'm interested first and foremost in a good receiver behind the plate. McCann fits the bill. The more I think about it, the happier I am.

Brooklyn, Thanks for the comment. I like McCann over Realmuto as well. Realmuto would have not allowed the Mets to upgrade elsewhere.
