Cubs dump Almora and pick up Marisnick for $1.5 million.

Everyone can be happy we purged another Brodie guy, like the existing front office (which has still not adequately been replaced) and various players.

In limited numbers, one guy hit .333/.353/.606 while the other hit, in 3 fewer ABS: .167/.265/.200.

Cubs win.

Agreed Jimmy. If there is a Kris Bryant trade - Lets see who wins that. My money is not on Sandy.

Jimmy, it's kind of funny how you use the extremely small sample size 2020 stats to judge the winner of Marisnick or Almora, but you constantly remind us that 'Bradley cannot hit'. I guess 2020 only counts for some.

Have you looked at Marisnick's career stats? The guy has had major league at bats every year since 2013 and has a total of one season hitting over .250 and one season with an OBP over .300. His career OBP is .281 and his OPS is .666.

The Mets won this one. Almora had a down year, but he is a much better hitter while also being 3 years younger.

The great thing about baseball is that you never know - we will see who has a better year come October.

Yes it is a great thing. . . and we all think and feel differently. I am so ready to get this year going to see how things go versus how I/we all think.

My personal opinion is that Almora, with his reunion with Chili Davis, is going to rebound and show signs of why he was a #1 draft pick.

Remember69: okay, fair enough.

I didn't mean to suggest that Marisnick is a .333 hitter with a .600+ slug and great defense. It's just he did that last year with the Mets. When we signed him, there was a sense that used correctly, this guy could lift his game a notch or two. That's what he did.

Again, I'm not saying to completely ignore everything that happened in 2020. I'm saying don't make too much of it.

For example, JD Davis -- in his first season ever with over 110 ABs, put up a slash line of .307/.369/.527 in 400 ABs (22 HR) for an .895 OPS.

In 2020, in less than half those ABs, he struggled with a .247/.371/.389 slash. I personally still believe in that hitter. But there's no denying he struggled without a hitting coach. Likewise, we know he's the most progressive Mets hitter for using video and statistical analysis -- something that was not available "in game" in 2020 due to Covid. I think there's a very good hitter there, making $2 million, under 4 years of team control. Who is he? I give more weight to 2019 than 2020. Either way, I don't know why he's getting bum's rush out of town.

The Cubs had a good, long look at Almora and let him walk, then gave Marisnick a slightly better deal with an option for year 2. I think the Cubs did well for themselves.

Of course, Almora is a Met now. I hope you are right -- that he returns to being the player he appeared to be a few seasons ago.

Why did we sign Villar again? I can't figure it out. A middle infielder with almost no experience at 3B and OF. To replace Guillorme?

Jackie Bradley, again, has had over 3,000 PAs and a career .239 BA, and he's on the wrong side of 30. I was interested him in a short deal for the right money. But he has a wildly inflated idea of his value. After all, as everyone knows, he can't hit.

Jimmy and Remember, I agree that us signing the Cub's guy and the Cubs signing the Mets' guy is a bit of a caution light - let's hope a change of scenery revives Almora.
