Our fine writer John From Albany did a piece yesterday on the man pictured above. Here's a look from another perspective:
Recently, Dominic Smith, used the word STUD.
Smith himself is stud who reportedly had been doing some hitting and other baseball off-season stuff alongside the Crow. Smith indeed called him a "stud". Being a current MLB baseball stud himself, that's high praise.
Calling him "Promising" would be one thing..."Stud" is another altogether.
What can we expect from the Crow?
I think of Justin Hayward.
Heyward was a 14th pick in the first round of 2007.
He had a brief debut in minor league rookie level ball the year he was drafted.
Then 2 full minor league seasons in 2008 and 2009.
Then, at age 20, he played a full season and was 2nd in rookie of the year voting in 2010.
Five Gold Gloves, one All Star game appearance.
Career so far: .261/.345/.414 in over 5,700 plate appearances.
Well, Armstrong was the 19th pick in 2020's first round. Great defense, Gold Glove quality, fine speed, good bat - just like ... well, Heyward.
Way I sees it, pardner, why can't he similarly get two full seasons of minor league ball and be the Mets' starting CF on Opening Day 2023, and be in the running for ROY?
On OD 2023, he'd be almost the exact age to the day that Heyward was when he made his full season 2010 debut.
Then the Mets would have solved their CF dilemma for perhaps a decade.
I'd be happy if the Crow equals Heyward long term - same glove, same speed, maybe even hit a little better.
Why not?
As the Crow flies, so, one day, will the Mets.

Nice piece, Tom. With the minor league changes this year, I'm curious to see how agressively they push PCA. Assume that he starts in Low-A, do they give him the whole season there? Or, if he doesn't look over his head offensively, do they try to push him to Brooklyn this year? That could accelerate his timeline to the majors, but it would be a lot to ask from a kid just out of high school
Mike, thanks.
I would say to push Pete as fast as he can handle it. And sometimes, guys can struggle for a few weeks against higher competition - I'd let him fight his way thru it. I would only watch his K rate - if it gets too high, then you're moving him to o fast.
Yes, good stuff. What goes for PCA, goes for others as well. It will be interesting to see how they approach this new minor league structure with less A ball teams.
Here's hoping they push Mauricio, Vientos, and Baty along quickly. It seems like Vientos and Mauricio have been in the system for a long time, but they are both still young.
Alvarez is another, but if there is any that you can't ruin, its him.
The pitchers will be another interesting look. Will we see Matt Allan in Binghamton before the end of the year? Ginn can probably move pretty fast once he gets back and throwing again because of his college experience.
I literally threw my fist in the air after they called out his name on draft day.
Can we see a Crow along with Squirrel and Polar Bear soon? 😂
Of course it's still ultra - early, Tom, but do you have any comparison between Crow and Kelenic in Jared's 1st season?
Mack, when you threw your hat in the air, i hope someone had a radar gun on it. You could be a late first round/early second round steal.
I clocked my FB around 8 yrs. Ago with a team coach.

Mack when you say things like that... it gives me hope that things (even if they go bad) were done properly...
from reading your analysis I have become extremely high on Painter and the C from Louisville...I really thing a Starter or a OFer are our biggest needs...
I am shock about your Petty selection (but you have been doing this a long time) but a guy who best option is a Closer is not what a top 10 pick would be my choice...
Eddie
I agree that Petty is a wild card.
I may easily go back to either Painter or Davis by July.
Mack 83 at that age? Koufax had to be jealous.
