Mack - More Weekly Draft Notes

4-27-21 - D1Baseball @d1baseball

Sam Bachman is back

The Miami Ohio fireballer cranked up from 100 to 101, sending him to the top of the 2021 Heat Sheet, alongside Ryan Cusick.

Mack’s spin -

This is the Backman velocity he has been famous for.

My 8th RHP.

4-27-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

All season, we've talked about Henry Davis being the prohibitive favorite for the Golden Spikes Award if a position player were to win it in 2021.

Time to take a serious look at Florida State C Matheu Nelson.

.340/.452/.882 with 19 and 55 RBI

For reference, Henry Davis:

.398/.525/.659 with 8 HRs, 10 SBs... far superior BB- and K-rates

Mack’s spin -

Everybody seems to be on the Nelson-train these days.

4-27-21 - Fish Stripes -

Third Round (88th Overall) – Wes Kath, 3B, Desert Mountain HS (AZ)

With their third round pick, the Miami Marlins select third baseman Wes Kath. The Fish grab another infield prospect who has drawn comparisons to former local high school prospects like Coby Mayo and Triston Casas.

Wes Kath is a 6’3” 200 pound third baseman with really good bat-to-ball skills. He’s a left-handed-hitting corner infielder that currently plays shortstop in high school but will likely move to third at the next level.

On Perfect Game, Wes Kath is the 39th-ranked prospect and the second-ranked third baseman in the country. He’s also the second-ranked prospect out of Arizona and top hitting prospect in his state. Wes Kath signed to play college baseball at Arizona State University.

Mack’s spin -

I have Kath as my 3rd third baseman on my board, behind Alex Benelas and Izzac Pacheco.

4-27-21 - Baseball America @BaseballAmerica

Minor League teams will play six-game series in 2021.

The main reason why? To reduce travel during a pandemic.

But there are reasons MLB player development staffs and MiLB operators alike may push for this to become permanent.

4-27-21 - Cape League  @OfficialCCBL

BREAKING NEWS

The revised 2021 Cape League schedule has been released!

Mark your calendars, because this is going to be one of the best seasons ever!

4-26-21 - Kendall Rogers @KendallRogers

INJURY NEWS: Sigh of relief in Tallahassee. It was feared that FSU C Mat Nelson might’ve broken his thumb yesterday, but there was no break. He’s now listed as day-to-day for the Noles. Good news for FSU heading down the stretch

Mack’s spin -

This is the first ink I have seen on Nelson.

As of 4-27, he is leading his team with a .339-BA. He also has 18 home runs and 53-RBIs.

I have Nelson as my 7th catcher this draft.

4-26-21 - mlb.com mock draft -

10) Mets: Ryan Cusick, RHP, Wake Forest

Another Hoglund potential spot should he come back fully healthy, but Cusick shows premium velocity and an improved breaking ball.

4-26-21 - USA Today -

No. 31 - RHP Tommy Mace

Tommy Mace was the de facto ace of the pitching staff coming into 2021 after putting up impressive numbers last season during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. He went 3-0 with a microscopic ERA and WHIP of 1.67 and 0.96, respectively, in 27 innings pitched while striking out 26 and walking just five batters.

He went unselected in the 2020 draft and returned to Florida this spring for his fourth year, in which he has seen a slight decline while also losing his Friday night starting spot to newcomer Franco Aleman. His stat line this season includes a 4-0 record (and one save) with a modest 3.78 ERA and a very respectable 1.06 WHIP, striking out 66 and walking just nine batters in 50 innings pitched so far. It is not surprising that he sits just outside of the first round in this projection.

4-26-21 - Clarion Ledger -

Braden Montgomery

Pressure is something the 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect could easily have on his shoulders. This season, he's second on the Jaguars with 31 hits and 34 RBIs. As a pitcher, he leads the team with 35 innings pitched and 68 strikeouts, at least 20 more than anyone else on the team.

4-26-21 - Chuck @chirpychaz7

Jack Leiter should refuse to sign with any team that does not promise him a spot on the major league roster in June. Service time manipulation will cost him a ton of FA money, and potential Hall of Fame credentials while he’s throwing 100mph.

4-25-21 - Keanan Lamb  @keananlamb

2021 catcher Luca Tresh has been very patient at the plate today, racking up several walks and finally getting into the hit column with this hard shot into left field

Mack’s spin -

Tresh is getting an awful lot of press lately for someone that isn’t setting the baseball world on fire.

Through 4-25, he is hitting .273, though he does have 8 home runs.

I currently have him as the 11th catcher on my board.

 4-25-21 - PG College Baseball  @PGCollegeBall

‘21 Elig. Ethan Wilson with 3 hits in game one for @WeAreSouth_BSB. Looking comfortable in the box and using the whole field with a hit to left and to through the pull side

Mack’s spin -

I love Wilson and always have, but I just love some other outfielders more.

I currently have him as my 5th outfielder behind Sal Frelick (my new #1), James Wood (dropped to #2), Jud Fabian, and Colton Cowser.

4-25-21 - Tyler Jennings @TylerJennings24

This is a Justice Thompson Fan account.

Does a good job at getting his hands inside on an 84 MPH breaking ball from Jake Garland and sneaks a double just inside the line

4-25-21 - Perfect Game Florida @Florida_PG

A look here at a homerun from ‘21 Gavin Conticello during Thursday’s game this past week as he improves his avg to .389 on the year. Free and easy swing that will play big at its peak!

4-24-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Will Bednar absolute electricity right now. He's up to 95 with a power slider that's touched 85 in this one. He's allowed 1 hit and posted 8 punchies in 4 innings to a stacked Vanderbilt lineup. He's earning some cash right now.

Mack’s spin -

This win is especially big since It came against Jack Leiter.

I have Bednar as my 44th RHP on my board.

4-24-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Another no-doubt bomb from Red Land HS outfielder Benny Montgomery. He's off to a roaring start this spring. It's easy to dream on the run tool, the bat speed, and the frame. Montgomery might have one of the highest pure ceilings in the 2021 draft class.

Mack’s spin -

That being said, I still have Benny as a mid to late 2nd round pick.

Currently coming off my board as the 10th outfielder.

There are just too many great players to pick for 1.10.
