Mack - Weekly Draft Notes

4-30-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

A couple guys who really struggled out the gates are finding their footing here the last couple weeks.

Alex Binelas last 6 G: 12 for 27, 5 HRs, 3 2Bs, 17 RBI, 3 BB, 5 K

Jud Fabian last 7 G: 11 for 26, 3 HR, 4 2B, 6 RBI, 4 BB, 5 K

Mack’s spin -

If your game needs heating up, this is the perfect time in the season to do that.

4-30-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Oregon State RHP Kevin Abel ends his night against UCLA going 4.1 innings. He doesn't allow an earned run, striking out 8, but he does walk 6 batters.

That's the book on Abel. In 54 innings this season he was 39 walks and he's hit 16 batters. 1.02 "free passes" per inning.

There's a lot to like about Abel. Some evaluators believe it's a 70-grade changeup, among the best in the country. He's also got an optimized vertical 4-seam that plays well off a true 12-6 breaking ball, the latter flashing plus.

If a team can unlock better command, huge value

Mack’s spin -

Abel has been a major disappointment this season.

I have lowered him to the 64th RHP on my board.

4-30-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Someone is going to draft Ryan Bliss in the second round and have a top ten second baseman for the next decade.

Mack’s spin -

I have Bliss coming off my baord as the 4th second baseman.

4-29-21 - Baseball Prospect Report mock 3.0 -

10. New York Mets: Jackson Jobe, Heritage Hall (Okla.) HS

Jobe has athleticism, feel for his four-pitch mix, and intriguing upside. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty also has explosive arm speed that allows him to get notable spin on his mid-90s fastball and slider.

His slider is his top offering and draws rave reviews from scouts. His slider has an elite spin rate, as he typically throws the pitch with 3,100-plus revolutions per minute.

Mack’s spin -

I like Jobe but I think this is a stretch at 1.10.

I have him as my 4th RHP, but below the top 10 picks.

4-29-21 - PG

Shane Panzini, RHP,  Red Bank Catholic (N.J.)

Another highly touted right-hander in the Garden State made his second start of the young season and impressed this scout with his poise, command and simplicity to his delivery. Fellow PGAAC alum Shane Panzini (2021, Spring Lake, NJ) continued to show the advanced pitchability and true three-pitch mix that we have been accustomed to seeing for some time now. The

University of Virginia commit sat 92-95 mph in the first inning of his start versus a talented Delbraton, while showcasing the simple, repeatable delivery and pinpoint command of a seasoned veteran. The strong, durable right-hander held the low-90s for the entirety of his complete game one-hitter, even touching a 92 and 93 in the late innings. The frame, demeanor and simplicity to his delivery remind of Matt Cain in his prime. The young right-hander has the ability to land all three of his pitches for strikes in any count, while flashing the potential for at least two plus offerings in his fastball and slider. Throw in a firmer changeup that has both depth and fade to it and you get a legitimate starter profile with no durability concerns or red flags for injuries. Panzini is one of the more low risk, high ceiling guys for this year’s MLB Draft and just how high he goes will be determined by his ability to hold the mid-90s each time out.

Mack’s spin -

I have Panzini as my 24th RHP on my board.

4-29-21 - PG

Chase Petty, RHP, Mainland Regional (N.J.)

Perfect Game All-American Classic participant Chase Petty (2021, Somers Point, NJ) continues to up the ante whenever he takes the mound and his first start of the season was no different. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-hander opened up the first inning against Holy Spirit sitting 96-98 mph, while touching 99 several times and eclipsing triple digits a handful of times with a high of 101 mph. Yes, a 101 mile per hour fastball from a high school pitcher that just turned 18 years old and has continually raised the stakes every time we have laid eyes on him.

There has been concerns revolving around Petty’s delivery and effort level for some time now, but if this performance is any indication of what is to come; those concerns should at least start to dissipate mildly. The University of Florida commit clearly showed ability to check off the necessary boxes when it comes to being considered a starter long term. The extremely athletic Petty held 95-97 exclusively from innings two through seven, even touching 99 mph with a pitch in the sixth inning. The marked improvements both physically and mechanically have only added to an already electric three-pitch repertoire.

Mack’s spin -

One of my early favorites, I now have Petty coming off my boad as the 11th RHP.

4-29-21 - Perfect Game California @California_PG

Roc Riggio collects his 8th HR of the season. Athletic, poised & pro-forming consistently in front of MLB Draft decision makers

Mack’s spin -

Moved him to second base, where I now have him being drafted as the 2nd second bagger behind Max Ferguson.

4-29-21 - Perfect Game California @California_PG

Max Muncy collected 4H & his 3rd HR of the season. A business-like approach. Pay attention folks, this is how you do it.

Mack’s spin -

I have him being drafted as the 16th shortstop.

4-27-21 - Baseball U PA @BaseballUPA

Mason Black and Adam Retzbach helped get another W for Lehigh today! Black's pitching record went to 5-2, while his battery mate went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 3 RBIs

Mack’s spin -

I have Black as my #20 RHP on my board.

4-27-21 - Perfect Game Four Corners  @PG_FourCorners

3B Wes Kath just missed another HR in his first AB tonight, flying out to the track. Showed off the oppo power to LCF. Followed it by displaying patient approach in back to back PA, resulting in two walks

Mack’s spin -

Read down… there is more on Kath.

4-27-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Another night and another bomb for Peyton Stovall. Tons of scouts from teams in the 25 to 34 range in attendance again tonight. He's a popular one and shouldn't have to wait too long to hear his name called in July

Mack’s spin -

I project him as a second baseman and have him 7th on my board… may have to take a look at that…

Binelas and Fabian need to replace the covers on the baseballs they ripped off. Very impressive.

It would be very hard for me to pass on Fabian if he fell to 10.
