Mack - New Met Profile - IF - Jose Peraza

There was a guy in the game last night who has never wore the Mets uniform before.

Well, actually, that isn't true. He was called up last April to be the 26th man in a game, but he never put the glove on.

Last night, down a run in the 8th inning, this new guy hit a ball to Philly 1B Rhys Hoskins. Yeah, that Hoskins who nothing gets through him. The screamer was knocked down by the first baseman, but he didn't seem that anxious to pick it up and get the ball back in play. He eventually picked the ball up and lackadaisically through it to second baseman, Nick Maton.

Meanwhile, back on the base paths, Jonathan Villar, who was on first when this play started and just pulled up at third, saw this soft through to second, and he darted home to tie up the game.

New Guy eventually came home and, well, Crazy Game was won by the Mets.

None of this would have happened if it wasn't for New Guy.

New Guy is well travelled (LAD, Reds, BoSox) 27-year old Jose Peroza, who the Mets picked up last year from Boston. His best major league season was in 2018 for Cincy, where he hit .288/14-HR in 182-AB, and led the league with 133 singles.

His 7-year lifetime MLB batting average is .277... but the New Guy that was called up when Luis Guillorme went on the IL, is now batting 1.000 for our Mets.

And that's just fine for a new guy...
