RHP A.J. Schugel
Schugel was signed this past week by the Mets after being a free agent since October 2018.
The 31-year old 6-0/180 righty was originaly drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 25th round of the 2010 draft, out of Texas Tech.
He has risen three times to the majors… first in 2015 with Arizona (5-appearances, 5.00), next with the Pirates in 2016 (36-appearances, 3.63), and once again with the Pirates in 2017 (32-appearances, 1.97).
Heath took its toll in 2018 and he was eventually released.
RHP Bradley Roney
The 6-2/180 righty was signed this week by the Mets and activated onto the AA-Binghamton team.
The 28-year old was orginally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 8th round of the 2014 draft, out of Southern Miss.
Had an outstanding 3-year career in college, featured by a junior year stat line of: 18-appearances, 2-0, 1,24, 36.1-IP, 38-K
Pitched all, or parts, of five seasons in the Braves chain (through 2019), posting career stats of: 141-appearances, 14-7, 3.32, 206-IP, 291-K, 145-BB.
Lack of control is what he has been known for throughout his career. He also missed the entire 2018 season and returned with reduced velocity.
C/RF/1B Matt Dyer
The 22/yr. old 6-4 catcher was drafted by the Mets in the 4th round of the 2020 draft, out of the University of Arizona.
Dyer hit .393 (broken hand in the last month of the season) in 2019 (3rd best in the Pac-12). 2020 started slow and then COVID set in.
He is a coach’s dream, having played behind the plate, at first, second, third, left and right field. Most comfortable behind the plate 90mph arm to second. Needs more work on framing.
2021 is his first professional season.
C/1B Jose Colina
The switch hitting Colina came out of the White Sox organization, starting in 2015 with their DSL team. Played four years for Chicago and one for Arizona, posting a .333 lifetime minor league BA, and a .372 for Rookie-AZL-Arizona in 2019.
The Mets signed him in December 2020.
RHP Bryce Montes de Oca
De Oca was considered one of the top prep pitchers in the 2014 draft.
He came off TJS surgery in 2013 and was drafted in the 14th round by the White Sox but he chose not to sign. After two years at Missouri, marred with ineffectiveness and injuries, the Nats drafted him in the 15th round of the 2017 draft.
The 6-7 De Oca turned them down too and returned to Missouri for his senior year (3.13).
The Mets then drafted him in the 9th round of the 2018 draft, paying him slot.
He spent 2019 inactive and 2020 under COVID restrictions.
He is now 25, no longer prospect material, and throwing his first professional pitches.

I saw Roney pitch last night in Binghamton. I can see where walks would be his downfall. A quite unorthodox delivery - almost seems like he throw it without looking, although that cannot be the case. He did strike out 6 batters in 2 innings pitched. His stuff was working. I think he topped at 93 or 94.
