Tom Brennan - 2024 International Signees List

Signing Prospects Is One Thing. Leaping to success, though? Time will tell.

List Source: The Athletic

The Athletic also noted that Stearns has not yet revamped its International team, so these selections were driven by the Mets team in place.
My summary thoughts?
Apparently, Yovanny Rodriguez’s signing bonus exceeded that of Francisco Alvarez.  One site noted the 6th ranked YR might be the best player to come out of this draft. May he become a superstar.
Mets fans, of course, would not be blamed if they exercise a degree of skepticism. The last 2 years’ top signings, Daiverson Gutierrez and Simon Juan, have under-performed so far.
Interesting is that one comes from the Bahamas, one from Colombia, and the rest are from prospect hot beds in the DR and Venezuela.
Where are the baseball prospects from highly populated Brazil?

My source puts Yovanny Rodriguez up there with anyone in this class.

Ernest, nice.

Any idea what, if anything, is going on with unsigned # 26 Raymel Ortiz?

You never know where the next big talent comes from. It is reassuring to see that the Mets are paying appropriate attention to the international area.

Paul, we need to rock in the international market. A cheap way to get future stars like Alvarez.

Too bad that, except for Senga, we haven't been able to attract stars from Asia.

Bill, if i was a Japanese star, I'd want to go to a winning team with deep pockets and ideal weather, not a lot of media pressure, and as close as possible to home.

That does not sound like the NY Mets. It sounds like the west coast. Thankfully, we got Senga.

Bill, the Yankees were THE TEAM when Hideki Matsui came to the U.S.

Career, Japan and US, he had 496 doubles, 508 HRs, and 1,654 RBIs. He was an RBI machine for the Yankees, too, not just in Japan.

We need a Japanese guy who can do THAT.
