Ike Davis:
7-21 from: - link - Stephen Strasburg is Major League Baseball’s most marketable player under the age of 25, according to a survey done by the SPORTS BUSINESS DAILY. The real surprise was at number five, Nationals No. 1 pick Bryce Harper, who hasn’t even signed a pro contract yet. The media attention and YouTube buzz has helped him get near the top in marketability. MLB’s most-marketable players under the age of 25: - 7.Ike Davis, Mets
Joe Torre:
7-21 from: - link - Dodgers manager Joe Torre is not happy with the teams penny pinching ownership situation, some think he’ll manage next season, just not in Los Angeles. It doesn’t figure to take long for Torre to be tied to the New York Mets job in 2011. He managed in Queens from 1977-1981. The Mets had just a .405 winning percentage and averaged a 5th place finish, but owe have things changed since then. He managed the Yankees to 6 pennants and 4 World Series Titles during a 12 year run in the Bronx.
Pedro Martinez:
7-21 from: - link - Despite having several offers on the table, Pedro Martinez has decided he will not play in the 2010 season, his agent told ESPNdeportes.com on Wednesday. "After a meeting to make a decision about his immediate future, Pedro decided he will not play in 2010, even though he is not ready to retire indefinitely from baseball," said Fernando Cuza in a telephone onversation.
Martinez, 38, asked Cuza to withdraw from all pending negotiations with Major League teams for this season. "This doesn't mean that Pedro is announcing his retirement from baseball because it's possible that he will change his mind for next year," said Cuza. "But today he asked me to call all the teams that were interested to announce his decision."
Manny Alvarez:
7-12 from: - link - Not enough has been said about the diminutive reliever who has managed to shoot his way from Port St. Lucie up to Buffalo in 2010. A virtual no-name as far as Mets prospect lists were concerned after posting a 5.09 ERA in PSL in '09, all Alvarez did was begin 2010 with a 25.2 IP scoreless streak out of the St. Lucie bullpen; whatever adjustments he made worked. He then carried that streak up to Binghamton and though he was eventually scored upon, his Buffalo ERA is currently 0.00 as he rides yet another scoreless streak. Start thinking about this guy as a piece for the Mets 'pen at some point in 2010 as he has still yet to hit a real wall. Though he didn't allow a run in Hi-A and posted a 2.70 ERA in Double-A, I can't imagine he'll go on posting a 0 ERA in Triple-A; however, 55 strikeouts in 52 IP versus only eight walks(!), zero homers allowed in 2010 and a .196 BAA is hard to ignore, especially with a 'pen like ours.
Chris Carter:
7-12 from: - link - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Chris Carter - C-: Clearly possesses some of the mystery shine which also glows off of Nelson Figueroa; people want him to succeed so badly, but alas, he’s just not very good and will enthusiastically prove it in many ways. Take away those two AB against the Orioles, and despite a couple of nice hits here and there, he sports a pretty shockingly unproductive 68 PA for a guy who cannot run, throw, or field…if the power from the Oriole series had just established itself, might actually be a 1-tool player.
