According to an industry source, the team is trying to trade the right fielder, and could have a deal in place by the time the Mets finish their series in Los Angeles this weekend. Francoeur would welcome a trade, according to a person friendly with the right fielder, if it gave him a chance to play every day. Francoeur’s playing time has been diminished with Carlos Beltran’s return from the disabled list. Angel Pagan has assumed the starting right-field duties, with Francoeur coming off the bench for the first time in his career. — NY Post

Old Mets WAR:



7-22 from: - link  -Four of the ten best Mets seasons took place between 1996 and 1998, and the names blew my mind. I guess John Olerud's doesn't - he was an excellent player and his 1998 is tied for the best Mets season. Who's he tied with? Yup, Bernard Gilkey, who hit .317/.393/.562 for the 1996 Mets. Edgardo Alfonso's 1997 and Lance Johnson's 1996 rank 7th and 9th respectively. Alfonso's 2000 ranks 10th.

Greg Peavey:



7-21 from: - link  - while Brewster beat Orleans and Y-D topped Chatham, Harwich beat West-leading Bourne and now has a better record than Bourne. The duo that was separating itself — Brewster and Y-D — has become a trio thanks to Harwich’s three-game win streak. The Mariners are now six points ahead of fourth place Orleans, and they have a better record than anybody in the West. Harwich got it done last night thanks to steady pitching and an eighth-inning rally. Sixth-round pick Greg Peavey (Oregon State) made his second start and allowed just an unearned run in six innings of work

Mike Antonini:



7-13 from: - link  - Antonini got off to a terrible start but has been improving as the season has gone along, a great sign from a young pitcher. His control is outstanding, and while his strikeout rate isn't tremendous, it's solid and not a major issue for Antonini. The real problem is the lack of stuff—Antonini really only tops out around 91—and that flyball rate. Homers have been a small issue this season, but there's the potential here for them to become much more than a small issue. Still, he's a lefty, and those guys have a tendency to buck the odds. The only problems here are problems we saw coming last year, and he's exceeded expectations in some ways.

Josh Thole:


7-12 from: - link  - TRDMB’s 2nd Annual Mets First Half Report Card - Josh Thole - B: Have to like this kid’s approach at the plate; very patient, makes contact, rarely strikes out…did not become a full-time catcher until 2008, so skills behind the plate may very well improve…little HR power and not overwhelming overall, but certainly has tools; a platoon in 2011 with Barajas might be ideal for Thole to work his way into the majors…like Ike, Mejia, and Tejada, very little time above AA, so may have a lot of growth ahead of him.
