Cutnpaste: - Pitcher Release Points, Roberto Alomar, Terry Collins, Carlos Beltran, and Nolan Ryan

Pitcher Release Points:

Mechanics are one of the most important parts of the pitching craft, but they have historically been among the most difficult subjects to study with large samples of objective data. Most published work has involved the comparison of a handful of photos or videos of a few pitchers against a subjectively determined standard.

This is not to diminish the value of the scientific study of the subject by researchers such as Dr. Glenn Fleisig of the American Sports Medicine Institute. These researchers have contributed a great deal to our knowledge of pitching kinematics and kinetics, and a number of clubs have taken advantage of this research to some degree. However, lacking the ability to conduct laboratory studies on multitudes of pitchers, the public analysis community has not been able to make much use of the scientific research in the field. - BP

Roberto Alomar:

Dall said she met Alomar in 2002 shortly after he was traded to the New York Mets. At the time, she ran a massage therapy business not far from the old Shea Stadium and treated some of the ballplayers. Dall said she and her two young boys later lived with Alomar from February 2005 to October 2008, shuffling between homes in New York, Ohio and Florida.

"I know Robbie very well," she said. "I'm not gonna say he was the best boyfriend. We had differences, but he never ever laid a hand on me or my kids."

Neither Alomar's estranged wife, nor Dall, nor two other women who have raised similar claims against the retired ballplayer have ever tested positive for HIV. -

 Terry Collins:

Terry Collins might be the biggest idiot to ever manage the Angels....I bought season seats with lots of hope going into the 1999 season and Terry Collins still owes me a refund.

Terry Collins did not manage. He demanded. He was an aggro, intense alpha male caricature of a leader and it annoyed every player and, when the disastrous 1999 season began to unfold, angered enough of them that a mutiny was set into place. He lost the team by midseason and they turned on him so harshly, so thoroughly, that he cried at the press conference when he realized that he had been "defriended" by just about every single person with a clubhouse pass.

You want to know what Terry Collins was like as a manager? Watch the part of Full Metal Jacket with the drill seargent in basic training. Watch the Geico commercial about the guy going to therapy with a drill seargant. By all accounts, Terry Collins was a tightly wound drill seargent. - link

Carlos Beltran:

Carlos Beltran expressed his desire to finish his career with the New York Mets and remain in center field.

But on a conference call Thursday to discuss the planned August 2011 opening of a $6.5 million baseball academy and high school in his native Puerto Rico, Beltran added that he is open to considering waiving his no-trade clause or discussing a move to right field if the organization believes either move is best.
