Cutnpaste: - Mets Pen, Gooden on Wally, David Eckstein, Brian Bannister, and Kevin Mitchell

Mets Pen:

Hisanori Takahashi is gone, and one person said there's a sentiment among some Mets people that Pedro Feliciano is "worn out," (if he is, you couldn't really blame him after leading the league in appearances the past three seasons, with 86, 88 and 92, respectively), so he may go, too. That means that the only proven entity in the Mets' bullpen may be embattled closer Francisco Rodriguez, whom the Mets would likely avoid using to finish 55 games, as that would trigger a $17 million option. - SI

Michael G. Baron
Gooden on Wally:

"I think he would be a great manager for them," Gooden said. "I remember when we played together, he was totally locked into the game and knew the game."

But Gooden said he thinks the former second baseman would be the right choice for more than his baseball knowledge.

"He'd demand the best out of his players," Gooden said. "And if you don't have a player that is loud and gets in your face, then you've gotta have a manager that does it. And I don't see a guy on the team -- and maybe I'm wrong -- that does that. So I think Wally would bring that." - NYP

David Eckstein:

David Eckstein will be 36 years old in 2011, and though he can still provide help with his glove, the bat may not be there anymore. Though 2010 began as a strong season for him, he was a mess from June onward, as what little power he had vanished, his plate patience disappeared and he began to strike out often (well, often for him, anyway). Part of that was due to a calf injury that landed him on the disabled list, but part of it was due to his age. Middle infielders don't exactly age gracefully, as the pages of baseball history can tell you, and it's not like Eckstein can afford to lose much of his game before he crosses the line between acceptable and retired. He can be inexpensive insurance up the middle, but that may be it at this point - BP

Brian Bannister:

Brian Bannister is officially a free agent.

Bannister, 29, pitched to a 6.34 ERA in 127 2/3 innings last year. His walk rate rose to 3.5 BB/9 and his strikeout rate dropped to 5.4 K/9, so it's not surprising that the Royals let him go. If they had offered arbitration, Bannister would have made something like $2.3MM, his 2010 salary. - MLBTR

Kevin Mitchell:

Trade: Sent to San Diego in Kevin McReynolds deal

After trade: 1,108 games played, .285/.362/.526 OPS+143

Analysis – Bad trade for Mets. McReynolds gave some solid years for the team but Mitchell won an MVP Award. Also loses points for being one of many moves designed to rid the 1986 World Series team of as many players with fiery personalities as possible.
