in your draft report, i saw the name trevor bauer for the first time. i do follow the draft, but for some reason I've never heard the name before. anyway, i saw he compares to tim lincecum and ALREADY has a better change and breaking stuff than lincecum, is bigger than lincecum, and is pretty much major league ready? i looked him up and read some stuff on him. i love what i read. i saw his fastball hits the mid-90s. i watched a video of him throwing. he was hitting 97, but I'm worried about his delivery. it looks EXACTLY like lincecum's. i know everyone was worried about lincecum and were worried he might have arm problems, and i know he doesn't have arm problems, but I'm not sure if that delivery would work for everyone.. what do you think? i don't think anyone should change his delivery, just be worried about it. also, how is he even draft eligible? i thought you had to be a junior to be draft eligible, and he'll be a sophomore. any chance he sticks around for the Mets at 13, because while I'm worried about his delivery, i would definitely still draft and sign him.

I love writing about the Mets, but my real fun is doing the draft stuff.
It gives me an opportunity to open up another world to Mets fans who, in the past, only knew about the players that took the field every game in Queens.
Now, because of people like Toby and Tej, you have a working knowledge of the Mets farm system, and, moreover, because of people like Sully and XMLBScout, you come out of the draft knowing if your team actually stayed awake during the draft process.
Bauer is one of the big deals in this draft, yet he just isn't getting the correct amount of press. Right now, Bauer is ranked as the 7th top RHP in the draft, according to the last 15 mock drafts. I'm telling you that this is far lower than he should be and don't be surprised he isn't the second RHP drafted come next June.
Here's what I have on Bauer:
UCLA – 2009: 9-3, 2.99, 92-K, 105.1-IP
12-20-09: named to 3rd team 2010 NCBWA AA team
1-9-10 from http://www.jjscouting.com/ : - Trevor Bauer: The youngest player on the collegiate side of things, Bauer is entering his sophomore year as a 19 year old pitcher. Graduating high school early to play for UCLA, like Levi Michael did with UNC, Bauer showed no nerves of pitching against the older competition. Compiling a 9-3 mark with a 2.99 ERA, Bauer did a lot of work pitching in 105 1/3 innings, recording 92 k's and only 27 walks, while also picking up 2 saves. His performance his freshman year resulted in the National Freshman Pitcher of the Year Award by the Collegegiate Baseball Newspaper. Like Gray and Cole, the 6'1 175 RHP took his game to Team USA this past summer, where his numbers were good in his 17 innings of work.
2-11 from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/ - Fellow ’11 draft-eligible righty Trevor Bauer will follow Cole in the weekend rotation this spring at UCLA, and while he doesn’t throw as hard, he sits in the low-90s and offers better command and overall repertoire. Those two, along with junior lefty Rob Rasmussen, form one of the better weekend rotations in the nation.
3/8 from: http://baseballdraftreport.com/ - SO RHP Gerrit Cole (UCLA) and SO RHP Trevor Bauer (UCLA) were both awesome this weekend against Nebraska. How awesome? So glad you asked. Cole put up the following line: 7 IP 2 H 1 ER 0 BB 9 K; Bauer’s numbers looked more like this: 6.2 IP 6 H 1 ER 2 BB 10 K. Just like last week, however, I’m as excited about a little thing that occurred in Cole’s start than I am about the entirety of his performance. Well, that may actually be a stretch, but I was impressed by his fourth inning showing all the same:
3-14-10 from http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/03/14/quick-thoughts-from-saturday/#more-24380 - Trevor Bauer of UCLA picked up where Gerrit Cole left off on Friday night by striking out 15 batters on Saturday against Mississippi State in eight innings. Bauer’s record improves to 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched.
3-21 from: - http://www.uclabruins.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/032010aac.html - The No. 12 UCLA baseball team improved its record to 15-0 by defeating Oral Roberts, 12-2, in the second contest of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Right-hander Trevor Bauer (2011) improved to 4-0, limiting the visiting Golden Eagles to one run and five hits in eight innings. Bauer struck out nine and walked just one in helping UCLA extend its win streak to 15 games, the program's longest win streak on record. The Bruins are off to its best start in any season in the modern era (dating to 1955).
4-7-10 from: http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2253 - RHP Trevor Bauer (UCLA): Cole and potential 2010 first-rounders Dan Klein and Rob Rasmussen seem to get most of the attention at UCLA, but the 6-1, 175-pound Bauer could well be the team’s best pitcher in terms of his combination of stuff and pitchability. The amazing thing is that Bauer skipped his senior year in high school and should just be a freshman now. He’s 5-1, 2.28 this spring with 59 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 45 innings.
6-11-10 from: - http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wait-til-next-year-draft-11-preview-pitchers - I’ll just go ahead and quote Baseball America’s West Coast scout Dave Perkin, who filed the most recent scouting report on UCLA second fiddle Trevor Bauer: “He fires an explosive 92-94 fastball, adds an excellent 81-82 change, and sprinkles in a 76 curve now and then. Bauer’s best pitch is his 84 slider, already a plus big league pitch and a portion of his arsenal that is blatantly unfair to college hitters.” I can speak to the strength of his change-up after a televised start earlier this spring.
6-13 from: - http://perfectgame.atinfopop.com/4/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=114295945&f=6174069131&m=3221081702 - RHP, Trevor Bauer, UCLA, listed at 6'1 180, more like 5'11 1/2, live arm, low 90's, competes, very good control, breaking ball is solid.
6-15-10 from: - http://www.deepleagues.com/?p=1830 – 2011 Mock Draft - 26. Boston Red Sox Trevor Bauer P, UCLA
6-29 from: - Andy Seiler Mock Draft - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/6/28/1541924/andys-first-2011-top-50#storyjump – 16. Trevor Bauer, RHP, UCLA
7-1 from: - http://sullydraft.blogspot.com/ – 2011 Mock Draft – 16. Trevor Bauer- RHP, UCLA
7-1 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/6/30/1544396/pats-first-2011-top-50#storyjump – Pat Hickey Mock Draft – 9. Trevor Bauer, RHP, UCLA
7-3 from: - http://milbprospects.blogspot.com/2010/07/early-version-of-top-50-prospects-for.html - Top 50 - 10 Trevor Bauer , RHP , UCLA
9-17-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/chat/2010/2610683.html - Is Trevor Bauer eligible for next year's draft? What's your early assessment of him? John Manuel: Bauer is eligible, he'll be a junior; he skipped his HS senior year, but it's his third year in college. I'm a fan of his long-toss regimen and his stuff, he's got a great changeup to go with his fastball and curve. Teams that shied away from Tim Lincecum may shy away from him as well, they do a lot of things similarly but Lincecum's stuff is much more electric. He'd be higher on my board than most teams' boards, put it that way. I'm a believer but I'm not sure he's a consensus first-rounder. He didn't pitch this summer, spent the summer in Houston training and working on his mechanics; I expect a monster 2011 season from him.
http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/ - UPDATED, Saturday, 11/06/10, 9:20 am EST - OK, I'm on a rant and want to talk about ML Prospect I have listed in my top 15, Trevor Bauer of UCLA. I've been asked why I like him that much and also I was asked did Travis Harrison really run a sub 6.8, 60 for me? Well first on Trevor. Why do I like him? Does the name Tim Lincecum ring a bell anyone? Timmy is a pint-sized super star right now who quickly elevated his pitching ability to the ML level and was a main reason for the success of the SF Giants in 2010, period end of story. Now Trevor is slightly taller and has a much better breaking ball and for me, has a better changeup at the same stage, and listen folks, Trevor is a tad younger than Timmy was at the U of Wash. Trevor does some things that many pitchers don't do, like the Javelin toss, stretching and throwing long toss, etc., but you know what? If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Trevor will be one of those names we all will be talking about in the Majors in less than 3 years and he's a much better "pitcher" than Gerrit Cole is in my opinion, Gerrit just runs it up there 5 MPH harder, LOL.
