Brad Holt, Robert Carson, Williams Jerez

-Manager Wally Backman did an interesting thing during the B-Mets win on Saturday night. Starting pitcher Brad Holt’s game was beginning to unravel in the fifth inning with the first two hitters singling and drawing a walk. In the past, Holt would be left in to unsuccessfully get out of the inning, but Wally’s team was up 5-0 and he was going to get this win. He immediately pulled Holt and the game went on to a win. The three walks Brad gave up gives him 24 in the last 26.2-IP. Any success he showed early on this season has quickly turned into another season like last year. You’re watching a pitcher prove every outing he’s a relief pitcher.

I don’t know if this is a growing story, but I’m throwing it out anyway. First, I printed the press release that I receive from the B-Mets every day on the upcoming game. It also includes the probably pitchers for the next four games, something I usually don’t reprint because it does tend to change. The strange thing this time is all four upcoming games have “TBA” under the Mets probably pitcher. Very strange, but then, I noticed that Collin McHugh was starting on Sunday in place of Robert Carson’s slot. Lastly, Carson tweeted and confirmed that he wasn’t starting. Frankly, all this TBA stuff is a week too early. Both St. Lucie and Savannah got big time pennant races going on I their first half of the season, so I don’t expect any big time transfers to come out until this time next week. More as I find it out.

The Mets worked out Grand Street (Brooklyn) Campus High School outfielder, Williams Jerez on Sunday before their game vs. Atlanta. Jerez moved to NYC two years ago from the Dominican Republic, and his stats this year were: .692/.758/1.385. Yes, that’s a 1.385 slugging percentage. He hit two balls deep into the upper deck in right field. I never heard of him before but I’m told the Mets may pick him with their 2nd round pick.

The NY Daily news did a two page article on him in sundays paper. He's possibly the real deal, and probably won't be around for their second round pick. Maybe at 43/44, I forget which of those picks is theirs. The mini mets pipeline had him picked by the Rays late in the first round. You know more about the arms and bats in this draft then I do, but it would be nice to get a local kid with a hot bat as a potential prospect. The article did say there were concerns about his age,(Shocker right?) but it also said this kid is hitting lima beans violently in the park so he definatly knows how to square up a baseball! Just hope those numbers aren't inflated due to playing against kids much younger then him. Check out that article Mack,...(in german accent:) very interesting. Charley T

I haven't seen a mention about him in any of the mock drafts or the draft experts.

I'm not big on local picks because I'm not big on NYC high school baseball.

I just posted a video on him.

The last time I signed in on one of your sites as a member there was a butterfly affect that ended with it's ending. For your sake and mine, i'll stay in the shadows. As far as local picks go Mack, nothing beats homegrown talent, thats actually homegrown. Just ask the Braves. Maybe Ny hs bb sux, but finding a rose growing in concret just makes it that much prettier. Charley T.

Yeah... like Steve Matz

Mack, I understand you felt Matz was a horrible pick, however he's still young and can't be blamed for a elbow injury. Lets wait 3 years before we judge that pick. Piazza, Pujols, R Howard weren't first rounders and they dominate or dominated the game. So lets give this second rounder a chance to get some innings under his belt before we decide to crucify the pick. Plus, that video you posted of Jerez launching missles with his wooden thunder and his obvious physical attributes was impressive.
