A.J. Reed set a Vigo County home run record with 18 as a junior, and when he came out throwing in the mid-80s this spring, some scouts wondered if he had a brighter future as a power-hitting first baseman. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound lefthander ended those thoughts when he started throwing 90-94 mph as the weather warmed up. Reed slings the ball from a low arm slot, and might find more velocity if he raises his arm angle. His slider also has added power, though it lacks consistency. He has committed to Kentucky. - www.baseballamerica.com
Terre Haute South baseball star A.J. Reed has informed Sports 10 that he verbally committed Friday night to play baseball at the University of Kentucky. The Wildcats offered Reed a full-ride scholarship and told him he will have the chance to both pitch and hit at UK. The South senior to be is regarded as one of the best baseball players in the state of Indiana. Last season as a junior, Reed was named first team All-State. Reed hit a school single season record 18 home runs, which was also a Vigo County record. On the mound, Reed was 7-2, with 98 strike outs and a 2.27 era.
Reed picked Kentucky over Indiana State, Indiana, Ohio State and Vanderbilt. -
