LAST GAME: The B-Mets collected five hits and took advantage of three Thunder errors in their seven-run fifth inning to defeat Trenton 9-3 last night at Waterfront Park. The seven runs matched a season-high for Binghamton for offense in a single inning. The offensive outburst broke a tie game and helped B-Mets starter Matt Harvey earn his second consecutive Double-A victory. The righty struck out six and allowed three runs in five innings of work. The B-Mets bullpen made the lead stand as Rhiner Cruz, Brad Holt, and Ricky Brooks combined to toss four shutout innings of relief. The B-Mets pounded out 15 hits, led by three-hit performances from Reese Havens, Eric Campbell, and Mike Fisher. Jon Malo chipped in with his second home run of the season.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brandon Moore makes his team-leading 22nd start of the season and first against the Thunder. Moore is on a four-game winning streak, the longest of his season. Moore’s last loss came more than a month ago (7/2 v Bowie). He picked up the win in his last start against the Reading Phillies on August 5. He allowed three runs in the first inning, but finished his night with five scoreless frames. The B-Mets are undefeated in his last four starts.
LHP Steve Garrison will make his 13th start with the Thunder and first appearance against Binghamton. The Trenton native made six starts with the Thunder before landing on the DL with a pulled groin in early May. He made two rehab appearances with the Staten Island Yankees (SS-A) before returning to Tren-ton in late June. The lefty was called up to the New York Yan-kees on July 19 and made his Major League debut on July 25, retiring both Seattle Mariners he faced to cap the Yankees’ 10-3 win. Garrison returned to the Thunder on July 29 and has gone 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in his two starts since. Originally a Brewers draft pick in 2005, the southpaw was selected off waivers by the Yankees from the Padres last September.
HAVENS’ STRONG NIGHT: B-Mets second baseman Reese Havens went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI last night. All three hits came against left-handed starter Shaeffer Hall. It was the first time this season Havens has col-lected multiple hits against lefty pitching in one game. He is now hitting .217 (10-46) against southpaws. Of his ten multi-hit games, eight have come on the road.
TAGGING TRENTON: Jon Malo’s two-run home run in the fifth inning off Chase Whitley last night was his second dinger of the season. Both have come against the Trenton Thunder. He homered on June 17 at NYSEG Stadium against Fernando Hernandez
