Dirty Laundry

1. Regarding “The Keepers”, I have taken OF/1B Lucas Duda off this list. I no longer consider him a prospect. He is a Met from this moment on.

2. I am spending this week re-ranking my “Keepers” series. Frankly, I’m going to re-package the top 30 and let the rest fall as they may based on performance. I have never in the past included players that remain unsigned, but I think it is now necessary to put Brandon Nimmo on the list so you all can see how valuable to the team. My new top 10 is: 1> SP Matt Harvey, 2> SP Zack Wheeler, 3> SP Jeurys Familia, 4> SP Jenrry Mejia, 5> OF Brandon Nimmo, 6> 3B Aderlin Rodriguez, 7> SP Michael Fulmer, 8> IF Jordany Valdespin, 9> SS Wilmer Flores, 10> OF Matt den Dekker. I will finish the 11-30 this week.

3. I vacillate on this, but I have decided that, no matter how talented Daniel Murphy’s bat is, he remains, and probably will always remain a liability in the field. This attempt to secure a wild card slot will be over this Sunday and the Mets can get on to the future. I hope TC gives Murph a chance to play out 2011 on second base, but this would also impede Lucas Duda’s growth in right field. Forget any return for Ike Davis. You don’t speed up a return for a key player in a season that not only is almost over, but is quickly becoming a moot point. Murphy is a valuable player to most AL teams as a DH and the Met ought to be able to trade for at least one top plus one secondary prospect here. Ruben Tejada can play second until (an if) Reese Havens comes around. If not, Jordany Valdespin is the hottest middle infielder currently in the system. His bat also rivals Murphy.

4. Is everybody actually excited about passing a bill that will allow $9,000,000,000,000 added to our national debt instead of eleven?

5. The site continues to grow. Silver Oaks Casinos has been added to our current advertisers list and “Phlavio” has joined the family writers here at Mack’s Mets.

6. The Mets now need to plan on SP Johan Santana never coming back. He's been shut down for the season and, frankly, odds are he won't have the stuff needed next spring. For me, my 2011 rptation on paper right now is Jon Niese, Mike Pelfrey, R A Dickey, Dillon Gee, and Chris Schwinden. Maybe Sandy can pull another Chris Young out of his hat, but the prospects won't hit the rotation until the all-star break (Jenrry Mejia) and opening day 2013 (Mike Harvey, Jeurys Familia, Zack Wheeler).
