Mud Hens to Promote LHP Shawn Teufel to Face Bisons Thursday

August 17, 2010 –The Toledo Mud Hens today announced that LHP SHAWN TEUFEL will be promoted from Single-A Lakeland to start against the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday, August 18 at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Teufel, 25, is the oldest son of Bisons manager TIM TEUFEL. Thursday’s game between the Mud Hens and the Bisons will be televised on the SNY Network and on Time Warner Cable SportsNet 13. Shawn Teufel has pitched the entire season with the Single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers, the Detroit Tigers’ Single-A affiliate in the Florida State League. The southpaw is 4-3 with a 3.63ERA in 19 games and seven starts with Lakeland. He has yielded just 56 hits in 62.0 innings of work with 35 strikeouts and 21 walks. He has won two of his last three starts, including a 5.2-inning effort in his last start, August 13 against the Brevard County Manatees (1R ,0ER, 3K). Shawn Teufel was Detroit’s 25th round pick in the 2010 June Amateur Draft. He began his professional career last season with a 2-2 record and a 2.57ERA in 40 games at three different levels of Single-A baseball. Tim Teufel is in his first season as the manager of the Buffalo Bisons. The former World Series Champion with the 1986 Mets is the 16th Bisons manager in the modern era.
