TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the final game of a four-game set at Frontier Field (1:05 p.m.). With a win today, the Herd can take three of four from the Wings. The team is currently 3-2 on their season-opening roadtrip. The Bisons return to Buffalo for their Home Opener on Wednesday against the Yankees (2:05 p.m.).
WINNING ROADIE: With a win today, the Bisons could start the season with a winning roadtrip. The last time the team began the year away from Buffalo and came home with a winning record was 2000. That year, the club started 3-0 while enduring three ‘snowouts’ in Ottawa and one in Rochester. The Bisons then defeated the Lynx, 6-2, in the Home Opener on April 12.
vs. WINGS: The Bisons have the early 2-1 lead over the Red Wings in the season series. After today, the clubs will play four in Buffalo, April 27-30, and two more at Frontier Field, May 5-6. The teams will not meet after that until an August 25 tilt at Coca-Cola Field. Dating back to last season, the Bisons have won nine of their last 12 against the Wings.
HARVEY STARTS: Today, RHPMATT HARVEY gets his second shot at his first Triple-A win. The 23-year old prospect was the Herd’s Opening Day starter but was defeated in Pawtucket on Thursday. In his Bisons debut, Harvey allowed four runs in 4.1 innings of work with four strikeouts. Last season, Harvey led all Mets minor leaguers with 13 wins and 156 strikeouts between St. Lucie (A) and Binghamton (AA).
FIRST ROTATION: The Bisons completed their first trip through the starting rotation yesterday. Combined, the group went 2-1 with a 2.77ERA and 19 strikeouts. RHPCHRIS SCHWINDEN and RHP JEREMY HEFNER earned the wins. The five pitchers allowed just one home run in 26.0 innings of work.
BISONS BITS: The homer by Rochester’s Brian Dozier last night snapped ended the Bison bullpen’s scoreless streak at 15.2 innings to begin the year...Last night, INF MICHAEL FISHER started at second and LHP CHUCK JAMES threw and inning of relief. Each Bison from the Opening Day roster has now seen action in 2012...The Bisons have yet to face a left-handed pitcher in 2012.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (4-0) remained perfect on the season with a 4-3 walk-off win over the Nationals last night. Former Bisons’ INFDANIEL MURHPY provided the dramatics with a RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth. OFKIRK NIEUWENHUIS hit his first major league home run in the win. Mets host Washington at 7:10 p.m.
